Just before noon, NCC Fire crews from Station 84 along with @grassvalleyfiredepartment, @nevada_county_sheriffs_office and Sierra Nevada Ambulance were dispatched to an aircraft down at the Nevada County Airport. On scene, crews determined the aircraft landed off the runway and was leaking fuel. There was one occupant who was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. "Mayday, mayday! TIE fighter down! TIE fighter down!" Well, as many of you know I rarely do this...but for this particular photo, I thought I'd lend some insight into the way I work when I do a composite photo, which is often these days! Even if I'm going to filter, I don't lean on that; I actually try to shoot each separate element in the same light to begin with if possible, so everything has the same baseline even if I totally change things up later! You can get away with NOT doing that, it's just easier IMHO. As for what to do as first, second, third steps, etc., now that I've done this for a few years now, I've learned to start with the background and work my way forward; it's like baking a cake with several layers. Only after you have the foundation and all the filling do you put the "icing" (final fx, filters, etc.) in. It may seem obvious, but in the past, I didn't do it and ended up with things that didn't seem to belong in the frame. The final touches help blend everything. Finally, I try whenever possible not to "burn down the house" (pardon the bad pun). If I've tweaked a shot to the point that I can't recognize any of the elements in it anymore, it's probably not what I wanted. If something is too extreme, I usually go back to an earlier cake layer and start again; that's easier than dealing with an over-edited mess. Finally, I often use digital sharpening tools and repaste, etc. to maintain image quality. There are quite a few cheats/extra steps that I didn't include here, but it's just a little glimpse! Hope you enjoyed it! P.S. During the afternoon of September 19, 2019, a Cessna with a pilot/passenger aboard crashed just after takeoff from Torrance’s Zamperini Field . The Plane went down in the utmost back of a strip mall and missing vehicles in the back, luckily there was no fire. PACOIMA - A small plane crashed near Whiteman airport, killing the only person on board, and setting landscape vegetation and multiple cars and on fire. LAFD responded on Thursday, November 12, 2020, to the 10600 block of North Sutter Avenue to find a small aircraft that made a high impact crash on a residential street close to Whiteman airport. The plane landed on two vehicles which burst into flames, and a third vehicle sustained damage. The vegetation and belongings that were in front of a residential home caught fire, however, firefighters quickly put out the flames, preventing them from spreading to the home. Electrical power lines were downed during the crash and we quickly cordoned off the area to ensure safety. DWP responded to shut off power to the area and eliminate the electrical hazard. There was only one casualty: the solo male occupant of the airplane was tragically beyond medical help. A nearby resident that witnessed the horrific crash, naturally, was emotionally upset, therefore evaluated by firefighters but did not require transport to a hospital. There were no other injuries. The circumstances leading up to this deadly crash are under active investigation from the FAA, and the NTSB was notified.
