And here is another work that I'm happy to show in London. Meet the sweet Frederika Sophia Wilhelmina, who was just 16 when she was married and this portrait was made. Her youthful age is one explanation for her petite appearance (I mean, look at her waist), but another is the fixation of a certain fashion style on reshaping the body. In this period, with the help of clothing, the silhouette was completely remodeled, the hips wide, the waist absurdly narrow (and there are a lot more things). Well, nowadays we have a term for this fixation on a special look: a fetish. So this mask, as I put it on her, is my tool to transfer historical aspects to our contemporary wording. This is just a short explanation of why I use this kind of masks. But of course, the baroque and later especially the rococo was a time of playful decoration. You know me, there had to be some bows on her mask. Small side note: while I was working on this portrait, I always had the feeling that the sweet dog at her side is somewhat speechless whether her new look. Hahaha, I loved that. I cover the faces in different ways, but I do not add anything from the outside to the paintings. I only reshape individual elements of the painting itself, taking into account the special characteristics of the painting. The Hidden Portraits are a contemporary view of art history, of paintings as part of representation. Self-Portrait 2024: Series 2, Part 3 Self Acceptance Harness Set: @badbadscarlett Through this series, I want to talk about a big secret of mine, a delicate subject, and I know I am not the only one who has suffered the same problem. Perhaps you can see in this series someone who is comfortable and confident with her body, and yes, this is a true fact now, but it wasn’t the case at all for almost my entire life. Since I was maybe 5, I was already very conscious about how my body was supposed to look. I don’t know where these standards came from, but they were ingrained in my brain. At 10, I started starving myself sometimes. I deprived myself of so many kinds of food during my teenage years and after. I hated going out with my friends to eat; I was unable to order food like a normal person usually does. Everything was supposed to be light or I simply wouldn’t eat. I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror without getting really depressed, crying for hours because I felt fat and ugly. At 17 I used to weight myself every day, because I wanted to be 45 kg or less. I wasn’t anorexic but almost. I basically hated myself badly. I feel I am in peace with my body, right now my focus is to feel and look strong in body and in mind , actually more than just skinny this is what somehow I envisioned myself to be but it was not very clear and I simple I didn’t know how….. I wasn’t interested really to sport, but more to dance… What change you might ask because to be honest, I always workout somehow through my life but the true healing journey started 10 years ago. I want to go deeper into this subject and remind you that there's always a way to change the story you tell yourself. Instead of self-destructing with destructing behaviour and hate self talk consider how to make peace with your body in the best way possible. How can you become the person you envision for yourself in a sustainable, loving, and compassionate manner?
