„Doesn’t sound like Bon Jovi.” - @therealsambora „Thank You, Goodnight” is a wild ride through Bon Jovi history. Those early albums with #RichieSambora ? Pure fire. His guitar work was the perfect counterpoint to Jon’s vocals, a sound that defined a generation. Let’s face it, the documentary doesn’t paint the whole picture when it comes to Richie. Sure, he might’ve had his struggles (we all do), but his legacy with @bonjovi is undeniable. New solo stuff? Maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but in Bon Jovi, his magic was undeniable. Shanks stepping in kept the Bon Jovi name a powerhouse. He supported Jon through vocal issues, that deserves props. But commercially successful doesn’t always translate to soul. And that documentary smile of his? Kinda rubs me the wrong way. Feels more „wannabe rockstar producer” than the raw energy of the early days. Look, Bon Jovi wouldn’t be Bon Jovi without @jonbonjovi songwriting and charisma. But there’s a certain electricity missing from the later stuff, something Richie brought to the table. Maybe it’s about staying true to your roots, that raw energy that made them legends. Who knows? Okay, so „Thank You, Goodnight” had me glued to the screen. Bon Jovi’s music has been my lifeblood - a fire in my soul, the soundtrack to every late-night practice session with my guitar. This doc is a trip, showcasing their journey, the magic Jon and Richie created, and the band’s twists and turns. P.S. Look, maybe it’s weird to put so much energy into this, but as a lifelong fan, a guitarist, a songwriter, a dreamer... Bon Jovi will always be Bon Jovi. BJForever. You feel me? Um euch ein bisschen Kontext zu geben: Ich bin mit 12 Jahren Bon Jovi Fan geworden, zu der Zeit in der It's My Life erschien. Die Band hat mich also durch meine ganze Jugend begleitet & hat maßgeblich meinen Musikgeschmack beeinflusst. Alle Bands, die ich in den letzten 24 Jahren entdeckt habe & auch mein neues "Projekt" @rockaholic_productions (wer mir dort noch nicht folgt, kann das gern tun 🙂) sind letztendlich auf Bon Jovi zurück zu führen. Ich habe da also eine gewisse Bindung, auch wenn in den letzten 10 Jahren der Output von Bon Jovi alles andere als zufriedenstellend war. Allen voran der Gesang von Jon Bon Jovi war 2022 kaum noch erträglich. Genau das greift die Doku jetzt auf. Der "Kampf" um die Stimme des Frontmans bildet sozusagen die Rahmenhandlung für diese Doku, die erstaunlich emotional & vor allem ehrlich geraten ist. Das hatte ich nicht erwartet. Ich dachte es wird ein Lobgesang auf alte Zeiten, aber es ist viel mehr als das geworden & gibt einem nun auch Kontext bzw. Verständnis für das, was da in den letzten Jahren passiert ist. Ebenso wird auch der Bruch mit Gitarrist Richie Sambora gut aufgearbeitet. Die großen Erfolge dürfen natürlich auch nicht fehlen. Alles kommentiert von der Band selbst & zahlreichen Wegbegleitern wie Bruce Springsteen, Desmond Child, uvm. So gerät die ganze Serie extrem kurzweilig mit gutem Spannungsbogen. Nun erfährt man als Fan nicht ganz so viel Neues, wie auch - die Bandgeschichte ändert sich ja nicht. Allerdings wurde mit reichlich Archivmaterial gearbeitet, welches ich noch nicht kannte. Alles in allem kann man so eine Doku kaum besser machen. Bon Jovi Hater werden hier zwar nicht bekehrt, aber für Fans der Band & auch aufgeschlossene Rock Liebhaber ist das hier ein absolutes Pflichtprogramm.
