Current build - the Jaguar XJ-S TWR Touring Car in 1/43 from Heller. I'm building this to replicate the 1984 European championship winner. I have added a mixture of decals from the spares box and some of my own to do my best to create the livery. Here it has been clearcoated with Tamiya LP9 and then given a light polish. Current build - the Jaguar XJ-S TWR Touring Car in 1/43 from Heller. Minor modifications have been made to the interior with seatbelts made from black painted masking tape with silver for the buckles. The real car was right hand drive but this only came in left so I'll keep it like this. Seat is painted in Tamiya orange and then semi gloss clear coat with the rest in semi gloss black. Current build - the Jaguar XJ-S TWR Touring Car in 1/43 from Heller. I'm building this to replicate the 1984 European championship winner on display here. Heller did do a version of this kit with touring car decals but it's super rare so I'm using the standard kit with a mixture of spare and homemade decals. First it's been painted in Tamiya green and Tamiya white. Jaguar XJR-9 GTP Daytona 25 Hours winner '88 - full build on YouTube - link in bio. This is the 1/43 @heller.fr kit but as I had already made the Silk Cut LM version, I sought out these Castrol decals to make the IMSA version which drove in the USA. I bought these decals on eBay and like many 1/43 sets, they didn't fit perfectly especially around the headlights so I fixed them where I could. Painted in Tamiya light grey primer, X2 white, LP09 clear gloss with Revell acrylics used elsewhere. I scratch built Daytona spec rear wing endplates, and used chrome foil and clear plastic for the headlights. Let me know what you think! THE SURVIVOR With a staggering 21 years of production, the XJS is a very spec-sensitive car. Older examples reeks of British Leyland, but a final-gen XJS, with its dark tinted body-width taillights, are mellowing very nicely, blending iconic stance born in ‘70s, with ‘90s touches. (An Eternity in Porsche years: Carrera RS 2.7 was launched in ‘73, by the time XJS bows out in ‘96, the 996 was just a few months away!) Unfortunately, most XJS in Thailand are well past their prime: ill-fitted with glassfiber bodykits, dubious wheels, and, heaven forbid, its V12 swapped for some Toyota engine. However, here we have a true survivor: painted in British Racing Green over tan interior with dark piping and inlaid Burr Walnut, cream double coachline coupled with clear glass, this exemplar is downright irresistible. NUB 120 is arguably the most famous of the competitive Jaguar XK 120s, although it was not a “works” car. It was raced by Ian Appleyard and his wife Patricia, daughter of Sir William Lyon’s! At the end of its competitive career in 1953 it was replaced by another XK 120 registered as RUB 120. Something slightly different today… As an automotive travel writer, I was privileged to drive many significant vehicles from venerable classics to modern day monsters, such as this Prototype Jaguar Project 7, owned by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust and on view at the British Motor Museum. This sporting supremo featured in the North Wales chapter of my most recent book ‘Classic Driving Days’ (contact me for a big discount!) However, this is a cropped image from the book, in order to present the Arenigs as the backdrop to one of my favourite roads, the Migneint Plateau. The Arenigs have stature and isolation, although I am not convinced they will make the list of Worthies. Do you think they deserve a place?
