Today (Monday) we went to the colony to check on Tomas and make a decision which route to take. He was walking a little better and ate a full meal. We approached him to take a closer look at him and he actually ran. Not sure if he was in pain while he did. Ana and Alecksandra believe he’s not terminal condition. He’s going to get a special food and supplements. If in the next few days he slows down more. Then we will trap him with a drop trap and take him to the vet. Yesterday high temperatures could had play a roll on his weakness. Btw: is Pedialyte safe for cats?. Bottom line is that we are going to wait a few days and see if there is any improvement. FAMILY PORTRAIT They're looking at me this way because these last two days I fed them, in addition to their kibbles, raw chicken livers and chicken hearts and they are literally crazy about it😻 Today I didn't have, so they'll have to do with the dry food only. I advise feeders to give them several times a week, it's relatively cheap at the supermarket and it's often in offers. Jennie Jane is a little torbie who showed up in our yard in 2018. She had five kittens with her in May 2019 whom we trapped and fostered. She remained elusive, until we used a drop-trap in July. She was heavily pregnant, but we got her spayed and freed her of that instinctive barrier to survival. Jennie Jane recovered for two weeks and was released. We didn't see her again. Or so we thought. We began caring for the Fort Faulsey colony in December 2020. It took a while, but we eventually realized she had returned there. I saw a distinctive marking on her paw, compared with photos, and voila. From 2020-2023, she had food, clean water, and shelters. She relocated herself to our backyard in 2023. We noticed she was losing weight and struggling to eat. We suspected she needed dental care. She ended up having 16 teeth pulled. Our neighbor took her in to recuperate. She's put on the weight. She plays a bit, but she's not interested in people. The caretaker plans to keep her inside given her teeth and her age, estimated about 8 years. Jennie Jane bats toy mice back and forth with the resident cat, Pretty Boy. That's the extent of her social life. Jennie probably could be placed in a quiet home as an only cat or with a sweet companion. She started out at the colony where a feeder was dumping large bags of cat food on the porch of the abandoned house that the cats called home. Life slowly got better, bit by bit, but never easy. She's always going to be wary, perhaps terrified. But she doesn't have to worry about food, water, or bad weather. That may be the best that she gets. The past 72 hours have been a rollercoaster of emotions… Myself and a few other ladies have been TNR’ing at a house downtown Greenville for about 3 months now. With 75+ cats we knew we had to act fast or there would be kittens. We had thought we got all the females when the son of the house told us three mothers had babies inside their house 😭 We immediately made an appointment at the humane society, we were told there was 16 kittens. When we went to pick them up Sunday night there was only 8… They were all in terrible shape. Raging URI’s, infested with fleas, anemic, malnourished and a possible case of ringworm. It’s insane that these kittens were inside someone’s home 😞 Sadly two we lost 2 more to the rainbow bridge, we did everything we could but they were fading quickly 🌈❤️🩹🐾 If you see a stray or feral there are resources to TNR and stop the cycle and prevent this from happening. SPAY/NEUTER is so important!! Sick malnourished mothers do not want to have babies. KINKA is only a tiny 3 month old kitten but has already been through a lot. Yesterday's surgery to remove one of his eye ball went successfully, I hope now that he recovers well and fast without complications. He is eating well and even playing ❤️🥎 Strong little guy! Unnecessary suffering that could have been avoided if his mum had been spayed. I'm not sure if his second eye will recover completely and he may have a poor vision, a bit of the eyelid that was covering it was also removed yesterday. He continues the antibiotics for 3 more days and the eye drops for the second eye for 10 days and a check up in 4 days. I'm really grateful that a couple of people have helped me cover his bill 🙌 If you want to adopt Kinka, drop me a message, but he will be adoptable only once recovered and possibly neutered and vaccinated. To rewind a little bit, this is the first pregnant cat of the 3. She looked to be a bit older. I caught her around Easter 2024 and she started giving birth a few hours after I caught her.
