The day kicked off with contemplations about new visitors and missing members, and some musing about rigidities and the idea of whether people within the community feel safe enough to not feel okay here. The first half took us tumbling through ideas of the kind of change people are looking for, and the despair that can come from not knowing how long it might take to change certain circumstances in our lives. We also thought about what it might mean to know distress in a certain manner, and how that influences an individual's acceptance of how they are allowed to feel their distress. Through the academic seminar, we explored the reasons behind procrastination, looking at different understandings of why we don't do what we don't do at its given time. It was interesting to hear members sharing their previous experiences in the area. The experiential training drew a ton of engagement and took us on an inward journey into the realm of finding meaning through a crash course of "Ikigai". The sentiments ranged from amusement to annoyance as we tried to list and make sense of our purpose. The closing meeting was used to question and reflect back on some ideas about change discussed earlier in the day. This tuesday was memorable, to say the least. This was one of the few days at Mosaic where the community had 7 minutes left to thoughts and reflections after completion of agendas. The feeling of incompletion and being stuck was carried into the clinical assessment where the community discussed developmental trauma and its identifying factors. The feeling, very quickly, changed into surprise, almost gripping our attention into the clinical seminar. The community pondered over the absence of a therapist and its effects on the patient. We discussed how therapy breaks provoke feelings of having to be in control and/or rejection which inturn may also give rise to feelings of anger towards the therapist. Some of us thought the act of termination right after the break is, indeed, anger directed towards the absence of the therapist. While some of the community members were left feeling gripped by the session, some felt paranoia and some, perversion. We swiftly moved into our academic seminar where a community member introduced the topic of 'Therapy in Times of Corona' in relation to quintessential principles of TC. This got the community to think about what online work means to each one of us - the therapist or the patient. And what is it about doing sessions online that make the shift easier for some of us? Some of us felt safer, more in control, less conscious while some felt it brought out the devious sides in each of us. The community meeting began with feelings of excitement and distress amongst the members. Some felt like they hadn’t registered events from the previous community meeting and were just catching up. As the community is online, the assessment presentation led us to wonder how important it is for individuals to acknowledge and understand their distress before they come in for therapy. In the clinical seminar, we thought about what makes some stories sound more overwhelming to us than others and how sometimes we feel so overwhelmed that we compromise our boundaries or distance ourselves at the cost of seeming cold. Are distractions “just” distractions? We also spoke about the difference between recognizing what another person needs and responding to needs before they are named. In the Academic Seminar, we discussed the relevance of a therapist (in the group) if online work takes away the therapist’s ability to create and assure the safety of the physical space for the patient. What other concepts of our work do we challenge? How do we begin to adapt to this revolution? The experiential training was themed on fantasy and the role it plays in how we relate to each other. Are fantasies a way to stay motivated towards a goal? Or a distraction from a goal? What is the balance between fantasy and reality? Are our social media interactions a play on fantasies? Can they be meaningful? The experiential training and the community meeting also had a theme of the struggle to recognize where we belong as individuals.
