Io amo i diedri alla follia, e questo oltre a essere un gran classico, dalle foto sembra bellissimissimo. É lungo però, circa 500mt. Non particolarmente difficile, ma comunque impegnativo. Lo segno, ma per quest’anno no, meglio di no. 2020-21 Per una serie di fattori vari - isolamenti da pandemia compresi - la mia salute mentale peggiora. Avevo finito terapia intorno al 2012, e stavo discretamente. Ora no. Con ovvie ripercussioni anche sull’arrampicata. Il mio terrore più grande, specialmente su vie lunghe, é avere un attacco di panico durante la scalata e di conseguenza diventare “pericolosa”, per me, e per chi scala con me. Per pericolosa intendo non essere in grado di ragionare lucidamente, e rischiare di fare male un nodo, o cazzate del genere. É un attimo a finire in tragedia. Quindi preferisco vie corte dalle quali é facile scendere se i miei neuroni decidono di far cilecca. 2022 - si torna al TFF, tra le vie da scalare tra una proiezione e l’altra rimane ‘sto benedetto diedro. Ma non sto bene, proprio per niente. Continuo ad avere il cervello ingolfato, ho cominciato di nuovo psicoterapia, ma anche se sotto alcuni aspetti sto meglio, le vie in montagna ancora mi mettono un’ansia troppo forte. Piango, non dormo, litigo, mi sento bloccata. A malapena riesco a scalare su viette da 6 tiri, una lunga più del doppio é impensabile. Frustrazione a mille. Eppure lo so che la posso fare. Fisicamente non é al mio limite. Ma dillo ai miei neuroni. Cleared all V4s & V5s in the gym! There is something therapeutic about it for sure. Now I am officially a V5 graduate 👩🎓😂 There are 20+ problems of V4s + V5s, and the ones in the post are what I felt hardest/ most rewarding. I felt the proudest about the white cave V5 in the second post, bc it was very physical & very sketchy 😱 at one point I even thought about giving up on this goal of clearing all the 5s in the gym but glad that I stuck to it 💕 one smol step up at the mind game 🤯🧘 I was absent from climbing for ~4 months & was in dire need of rebuilding my climbing muscles & tendons. Some of these felt impossible the first time I tried it but as I get more strength back they became easier. First Day Out! Last weekend I had my first Saturday off (during the work season) in years, my first trad climb of the year, and Rachel’s first route since fracturing a couple off vertebrae in her back 2 weeks ago. It also felt like the first day of sun for 2024 🤣 . We settled on the lesser frequented Clogwyn y Bustach which is right next to the uber popular Clogwyn Yr Oen in the Moelwyns above Tan Y Grisiau. I’ve been here once before, around 10 years ago, to do the crag classic “Flake Wall” a nice HVS. . It turns out this crag is absolute awesome for wall climbs around the e2-ish level! It’s like a mini (but still 25-30m) version of the Cromlech. It’s slightly slabbier, but features very similar climbing with lots of nice rails, crimps and crozzly pockets. . First up was the crag classic “Titus” which I thought was good value at e2. Initially Rach said she was going to second everything but obviously when we got there that changes (I think she sneakily was always planning on it if she was feeling well enough!). There’s a burly crux on this thing but with a big rack there a lot of kit. This is a top quality climb as good as anything else in north wales and 3 stars for sure. The rock is just superb! . Next was the bold sounding a bold looking Acoustic Flake - e3 5b. I generally don’t like bold stuff. The nice rock lured me in on this one. Initially I remembered, I don’t like this stuff, and then I decided the movement was pretty nice so in this rare instance the risk warranted it, and said to Rachel she might like it. It’s basically unprotected 5a (or easy 5b) climbing to around 15m where there’s some gear (just beyond acoustic flake 🤢) and some more nice creeping above. Overall not too bad for e3 5b but you can’t get these things wrong… . Continued below 👇

Ailefroide 🇫🇷 Next stop was Ailefroide. We only spent about a week here, as unfortunately time was running out and our summer road trip would soon have to come to an end 🥲 Yet another place that we will definitely return to! There are so many great things about this place, but first and foremost it’s absolutely amazing how many gorgeous long multi-pitches are just a short walk from the camp site 🧗🏻♀️ We did a chimney trad route (Fissure d’Ailefroide, VS 4c) which is the obvious line you can see in pic 4 - a super cool route! As well as a bolted route (Snoopy Directe, 6b) which had some great pitches, including a big flake (one of my favourite things) and some surprisingly technical slab for the grade 🙃 Additionally, there’s a really nice single pitch sports climbing crag just off to the side where we climbed some absolute top notch routes 💪🏻 The only “downside” to Ailefroide was the fact that most of the multi-pitches required 2 x 50-meter ropes to abseil down, so we were limited to the ones that we could walk down from since we had only brought one rope 😅 The down-walk was… interesting. There were some pretty exposed parts, but luckily those bits could be protected by clipping into the fixed wire (pic 6). Here are some views, some selfies, some half decent timelapse pics, and Nic giving his best model pose! As my rope was 80 meters, we tried our best to do some coils and tie them off so we didn’t have to haul so much rope between pitches. While it was functional, it wasn’t pretty, and I feel like I need to disclaim that we have since learned how to do coils properly lol 🙈

Mi son laureata qualche giorno fa, sperando che da un giorno con l'altro mi sarei improvvisamente sentita leggera: non è successo. Speravo che il massimo dei voti avrebbe cancellato quel senso di insoddisfazione, ma nemmeno la lode mi ha salvata. La leggerezza purtroppo non è quasi mai legata al raggiungere un certo traguardo/evento, e tanto meno al giudizio esterno che ricevi. Questo vale anche per la scalata: se la motivazione che ci muove è estrinseca, e cioè proviene da un riconoscimento esterno, o dal raggiungere un certo grado (a cui ne seguirà inevitabilmente un altro), non saremo mai soddisfatti profondamente, per il semplice fatto che gli altri sono diversi da noi e possono ritenere più o meno valevole ciò che abbiamo fatto. Si entra così in un loop infinito di "mai abbastanza" che, invece di motivare, demotiva. L'eccellenza non è un valore esterno, non è un voto né un grado, ma il saper riconoscere il nostro valore a prescindere da parametri misurabili con la performance. Questo è il mio prossimo obiettivo ☀️ Non vedo l'ora di tornare a tirare prese, allenarmi come non ho mai fatto e studiare mental training.
