Columcille Megalith Park is a privately owned park that is open to the public. This space is meant for renewal, contemplation, and has a beautiful spiritual feel to it. We loved this family friendly space with over 20 acres to explore. There is a guide map if you need one, but some things are purposely left off and meant for you to find and explore on your own. There are some small hills and uneven paths, but the paths are all well maintained and easy to follow. These massive rocks were brought in from all over, and many from local rock quarries. The rocks are not meant to be climbed on. It has its origins in Casa Colum (Gaelic for Home of the Dove), a small house opened in 1975 by William Cohea Jr. as a salon by the side of the road where tired sinners and reluctant saints could drop by and share their experiences and ideas. Cohea had been inspired during a visit to the Isle of Iona to create an open space which welcomed people of all faiths and traditions interested in renewal and transformation. Following construction of the chapel, the St. Oran Bell Tower was begun, patterned on eighth century Irish ruins. Shortly thereafter a stone circle was added, along with a small fresh water meditation pond. As more stones were set, the outlines of the present Megalith Park began to emerge. Today, Columcille includes the trilithon Thor's Gate, the Glen of the Temple, and numerous megaliths strategically placed on the land. The Park is constantly evolving. New megaliths added in autumn, 1997 bring the total to over eighty standing stones, and work continues on the system of woodland trails and meditation sites set aside for men and women. #weirdpa #megalithic #columcille #columcillemegalithpark #explorepa #pennsylvania_igers
