Wet dog Wednesday, state park edition! . This week is I Love My State Parks Week so of course I saved my wet pictures from the weekend for today. It rained and hailed a lot so we were wet most of the time. But our cabin at Kooser State Park was right along this creek and The Peasants said I couldn't go swimming because of my paw. Ugh. Ole Bull State Park managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources sits on 132 scenic acres along the Kettle Creek Valley. Ole Bull State Park is named for Ole Bull, a famous Norwegian violinist who toured the United States in the 1850s. He purchased a large tract of land in Potter County and attempted to develop a series of Norwegian settlements. He began construction of a “home” at what now is called Ole Bull Vista. In 2002, the 150th anniversary of the founding of Ole Bull’s colony, a monument was erected to honor Ole Bull. The monument was a gift from the citizens of Norway in recognition of his talent, foresight and patriotism. Pennsylvania lawmakers are happy that the PA Wilds will remain wild after the US Air Force and National Guard canceled training operations across the commonwealth’s Northern Tier. The two branches proposed the creation of the Duke Military Operating Area over six North Central Pennsylvania counties and would have allowed pilots to fly as low as 100 feet above the ground in some areas. The proposed military operation faced pushback from local, state and federal lawmakers, conservation groups and other organizations. “From the moment the Air Force’s proposal was announced, I’ve been deeply concerned about how low, loud, and frequent flights could disrupt livelihoods in a tranquil region that has built its identity on outdoor recreation,” US Sen. Bob Casey said in a statement. “After years of pushing the Air Force to abandon this plan, I’m glad that they are respecting the wishes of the people of North Central Pennsylvania. This past weekend I attended the 2024 Pennsylvania Content Creator Meetup hosted by @hemlockstohellbenders at Pine Grove Furnace State Park!
