Earth Day, a day we should remember not just on April 22, but every day. It is a day to understand that we are no greater than the planet which provides us a home, food, and water. It is the planet that we should always strive to protect, to nurture, and to grow and as a result, strive not to destroy, pollute, and diminish our home. We aren’t the only ones who live here. Millions of species of plants and animals live here too. Red pandas, koalas, and racket-tailed rollers are unique in their own way, each with different evolutionary backgrounds, each existing in a different continent, and each with different behaviors, however they all have one thing in common. They rely on the trees to thrive just like we do without even stopping to realize it. Trees (and plants) are crucial to the cleanliness of our air, our water, and our environment. So remember, when you step outside and go for a hike or simply stop to “smell the roses,” you’re reconnecting with Mother Nature. That is something I hope you do, even after this celebratory day has passed. Not just for yourself, but for the planet and all of its inhabitants too.
