We did it!!! We sold our house and we’ve started our next chapter! It’s been a crazy ride the last few weeks and we are so grateful to everyone that has wished us luck, checked in on us, and helped us out. There is one person in particular who has just been a superstar, they know who they are 🙈. A few weeks ago we put out a post that said how much trouble we were having finding a rental that accepted dogs, this person went out of their way to help us and ultimately they found us somewhere to live! And not just anywhere but a beautiful converted barn on 90 acres - could we be luckier?! Their family has also helped us moved in and really shown us what hospitality means, there are some genuinely good and wonderful people out there 😭🙏 So this is partly a thank you post, to everyone who has helped us so far 🙏 you mean so much to us! . But I’m also mindful that while I’m in this bubble of crazy, everyone is dealing with the highs and lows of life. Anytime I get busy doing any kind of tedious task, she wants to be right beside me and mimics what I do. 🌱When I walk around, looking at things, she is right on my heels, poking around. 🌱When I dig in the garden beds, she digs her own little holes. 🌱When I pick veggies, she snaps off her own little bites. …Which is how I discovered that dandelions are healthy for dogs! The first time she started eating dandelions as I picked them, I freaked out and did some quick googling. Which lead me to the following… 🌼They provide a bountiful early season food source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. 🌼They are edible for humans, from root to flower. The leaves are a nutritious green, which can be cooked (best with mature, larger leaves) or eaten raw (best with young, small leaves). The roots can be roasted, and brewed into a tea that many revere as a coffee substitute. The sweet petals can be eaten in salads, or used to make wine or jelly. 🌼Long valued for their medicinal properties, dandelions can be used to support kidney & liver health, as a digestive aid, and generally as an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. 🌼🐕For dogs - Just like for humans, the entire dandelion plant is edible. Also just like for humans, dandelion greens, flowers, and roots contain many vitamins and minerals, and can help boost their immune system. 💛Dandelions generally get a bad rap, but they’re pretty amazing little plants! Last weekend was a tease- sunny and lovely, not too warm. We met an auntie at the tulip farm on Thursday thinking it’d be pretty quiet compared to going on a weekend, but it was packed 🙃 Wynne was overwhelmed at times but her stress was manageable. She didn’t shut down or try scuttling away, she was just very alert and concerned by groups that would too slowly past us or linger nearby- even if they weren’t paying her any attention (she WAS called “precious” by a pretty girl walking by, though 😌) and she did really well hanging out with her auntie @cati_c5. We didn’t get many pictures where she doesn’t look worried but that’s okay. She had a successful outing that I think added to her confidence with me so it’s a Wynne win 😄 And on the way home we stopped at a popular waterfall trail because the timing seemed right. On a Thursday at 5 it was perfect, we saw only a handful of people. She relaxed and had fun running up and down the trail. Minttu on meillä vähän jämähtänyt vierailevana tähtenä, hän on kyllä aivan ihana koira ja molemmat palvelushenkilöt on siihen tykästyneitä, mikä on harvinaista😂.. alunperin Mintun piti jäädä meille pariksi viikoksi treenaamaan Jämin talvikisoja varten, että koirat tottuisi vieraaseen koiraan valjakossa, eikä sattuisi mitään esim. rähinöitä kisoissa. Koirilla voi tunteet kuumentua varsinkin kisatilanteissa, ja on heille reilumpaa myös treenata hieman yhdessä ennen kisoja. Pari viikkoa onkin muuttunut nyt jo reiluksi pariksi kuukaudeksi😄 Varsinkin Halla ja Minttu on aivan parhaita kavereita. My thoughts on Wednesdays summed up in an image: Any plans for today? It's actually my husband and I's 4 year anniversary, so we'll probably go out for dinner! . Honestly, since we got back from Texas, life's kinda been weird, with nothing and everything going on all at once. I'm back to working full time, and unfortunately, almost all of my leave has been eaten up, so no time off for me for a while 😭 I'm still looking for a car, we were going to look at one over the weekend but it sold RIGHT before we scheduled the test drive. So I'm still looking. I've pretty much narrowed my list to the Subaru Outback, Subaru Forester, or Toyota Rav4. If I found I good enough deal I'd consider other things as well. Both my husband and I really love the Wilderness trims on the Outback and Forester, but unfortunately those just started in 2022 so they're pretty dang hard to find for a good price. On the bright side, my husband finally got the job he's been wanting!!!! I'm very excited about it, it increases our budget a little bit for the car. Money has been very tight with just me alone working. In the area I live in, it costs a lot to live. Luckily, both of our cars were paid off before mine gave up the ghost. I have never regretted getting a second dog but it's not as easy as some people make it look 👇🏼 _____________________ We put a lot of work into training and our relationship with Apollo when he was the only dog in our lives. But once we got Ares, the focus turned to him for quite a while (puppy training and socialization), and I fear that this has deteriorated some of what Apollo and I had built before. __ We'd walk them together to save time - this led to Apollo having less structure on his walks, and seems to have made him focus more on the environment and less on us (which made him more anxious). And with Apollo's resource guarding, and Ares getting over-worked if we didn't include him, it was easier to just play with Ares - and we stopped playing with Apollo as much. We used to play fetch with him most days - but we rarely got out at all anymore. And when we took them somewhere, we had less patience - because handling two dogs, especially one who's anxious, is more difficult than providing undivided attention to just one. __ It used to feel like it was me and Apollo against the world - two anxious souls, just trying to work through their big feelings together. But after getting a relatively "easier" dog, it's felt like we've been less connected for a while now, and I hate it. __ So this morning, I took Apollo out in the yard by himself, and we played fetch - he wagged his tail, was bouncing around, and looked happy. And it felt like I had my boy back. It's certainly not a great picture by photography standards. Hollow's nose is the only thing in focus, and it's never a great idea to take pictures of him (a very black, dark dog) in direct (very bright) sunlight. Overexposed or not, I find myself liking this picture anyway. Not everything needs to be so perfect here on instagram.
