Guess what - it’s snowing again here in Wyoming ❄️ The mountains are expected to get roughly 2 feet of fresh snow from this storm. Here in town I think we’ll be getting mostly rain, but we did get a dusting of snow overnight last night. Benny has been going to dog sitters off @roverdotcom while I’m working my 12 hour day shifts. My boyfriend is usually around to help out but he had to go home to Saskatchewan early. This app has been so helpful. They screen the sitter’s so you know you are leaving them with a trustworthy person. Since I’m a travel nurse, my accommodation is 15 mins from my work, and I’m on my own with Benny right now, I really need some help sometimes! I’ve posted a little about this in my stories, but Riot—who I rehomed about six months ago has been returned back into my possession as of yesterday. I am unsure if I will work towards finding him a new home again in the future, as we are considering keeping him permanently at this point. We finally got to see the feral ponies of Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia!! They're the only feral equines along the Appalachian trail. They've been a part of the mountains for 50 years and help maintain the mountain "balds"; the alpine meadows which are generally rare in Appalachia. It was our final hike of an adventure to celebrate Cliff's gotcha day. We covered 40 miles in 3 days across WV and VA, and the hound puppies were excited but tired for a final adventure. Cypress laid down in the balds, and Cliff followed. A raven flew over. We sat there "with" the ponies for probably 20 minutes, enjoying the ceaseless wind and gentle sun. We kept a respectable distance and didn't intervene in their behavior. Aside from a curious yearling, they couldn't have cared less; adults rested or rolled on their backs, and foals rested or nursed from their moms. Honestly it was magical. However, that wasn't the case before we sat down. A couple (you can see them in the 2nd vid) got right in the ponies' faces for pics and posed almost touching them, and also blocked the trail for us. The preggo pinto stomped her feet anxiously, and one laying pony leapt to her feet. We sat or laid down just off the trail, waiting, when that pretty chestnut yearling came down the trail from the pines. We moved back further to give her space, but she was blocked from her family by the same couple. When they finally passed, I said they were getting too close, the woman said the ponies are "pretty tame", I said they're showing signs of stress, and she huffed and told me to have a nice day and left. Another person had their off leash Pointer dog zooming around like they were at a dog park. In the parking lot, a pair of poodle mixes lunged and yapped at us and other hikers ⬇️ Con't in comments ⬇️

Anytime I get busy doing any kind of tedious task, she wants to be right beside me and mimics what I do. 🌱When I walk around, looking at things, she is right on my heels, poking around. 🌱When I dig in the garden beds, she digs her own little holes. 🌱When I pick veggies, she snaps off her own little bites. …Which is how I discovered that dandelions are healthy for dogs! The first time she started eating dandelions as I picked them, I freaked out and did some quick googling. Which lead me to the following… 🌼They provide a bountiful early season food source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. 🌼They are edible for humans, from root to flower. The leaves are a nutritious green, which can be cooked (best with mature, larger leaves) or eaten raw (best with young, small leaves). The roots can be roasted, and brewed into a tea that many revere as a coffee substitute. The sweet petals can be eaten in salads, or used to make wine or jelly. 🌼Long valued for their medicinal properties, dandelions can be used to support kidney & liver health, as a digestive aid, and generally as an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. 🌼🐕For dogs - Just like for humans, the entire dandelion plant is edible. Also just like for humans, dandelion greens, flowers, and roots contain many vitamins and minerals, and can help boost their immune system. 💛Dandelions generally get a bad rap, but they’re pretty amazing little plants! When Kaya passed, I noticed an immediate change in Tyson. Not that I didn’t expect this or anything, as Tyson only ever knew life with Kaya in it & a part of it. But, one of the biggest changes I noticed in Tyson that surprised me most was how clingy he became. Both Kaya & Tyson were & are very independent dogs. Neither one of them liked too much cuddling, affection, and attention. Tyson occasionally likes a good butt scratch or to lean on you when you’re sitting and/or standing somewhere, but for the most part, both Ky & Ty pretty much kept to themselves & that’s how they preferred it. As soon as Kaya passed, Tyson became Mr. Velcro Dog. Ty started following me to the bathroom, following me whenever I leave a room he is in, if I go outside - Tyson is sure to follow, when I go inside - Ty is right behind me. TBH though - I have really enjoyed this NEW version of Ty (aka: Stage 5 Clinger). 🤗 Ty & I never really had much of a bond. A day in the life of Digby 1 - It’s 6.30am and we are ready and raring to start our day! C’mon mum, put the camera away and let’s go! 2 - Mum likes to give me a task/challenge now and again so I carried my back pack on our first walk of the day this morning. I was rather proud of myself and soaked up all of the attention from people walking past. (Mum says I would have made a super search and rescue dog!) 3 - Up next was nice town walk with my friends Cora and Jonesie. 4 - Time to pick up more friends and head to the fields for some off-lead fun. 5 - More friends to play with! Another walk filled with fun and games in the fields. 6 - Break time! Time to grab some lunch which was a tasty cows ear from my favourite @bravepawco and get a quick nap in before we head back out! 7 - Time for more fun! A game of uphill fetch with my sister and our good friend Molly is one of my favourites. 8 - Our last walk of the day! Most would be tired at this point but not me!! 9 - Tea time!
