In the distance you can see Whernside. 🏔️ 🌿 Did you know that Whernside is the highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks? 🏞️ The views are pawsitively breathtaking! 😮 On a clear day, you can see the rolling Howgills, the distant Lake District, and even the shimmering waters of Morecambe Bay. 🌅 I even met some cow friends along the way and well, they’re just big, slow-moving chew toys! 🐄 Fun fact: Did you know that the name “Whernside” comes from Old English? Last weekend was a tease- sunny and lovely, not too warm. We met an auntie at the tulip farm on Thursday thinking it’d be pretty quiet compared to going on a weekend, but it was packed 🙃 Wynne was overwhelmed at times but her stress was manageable. She didn’t shut down or try scuttling away, she was just very alert and concerned by groups that would too slowly past us or linger nearby- even if they weren’t paying her any attention (she WAS called “precious” by a pretty girl walking by, though 😌) and she did really well hanging out with her auntie @cati_c5. We didn’t get many pictures where she doesn’t look worried but that’s okay. She had a successful outing that I think added to her confidence with me so it’s a Wynne win 😄 And on the way home we stopped at a popular waterfall trail because the timing seemed right. On a Thursday at 5 it was perfect, we saw only a handful of people. She relaxed and had fun running up and down the trail. We need more signs like this! This definitely put a smile on my face. What a breath of fresh air to enter a community that respects one another with dogs. Everyone has had proper etiquette on the trails and practices boundaries and calm socialization at a distance in public places. Not once did I have an off leash dog rudely come into our space or have out of control dogs reacting at us. It’s was like a breath of fresh air to see everyone’s dogs behaving so calm and balanced as a result of their leadership and impulse control for leashed greetings. Everyone had great recall on the trails and called their dog back to them to be leashed when walking past us. We had a beautiful adventure with @blacksodapup and her mom, Zani. They are visiting from Pretoria and had the Noordhoek Peak on their bucket list, so of course we had to show them around. The hike started with a couple telling our moms that they saw some sort of adder 🐍 on the path we were heading up. So we needed to leash up and mom had the delightful task of managing almost 90kgs of dog 🤭 so this bad ass woman is her soundtrack for today. The wind was blustery at the Peak but we had glimpses of the spectacular views as the clouds blew swiftly past. Throwback to the Yorkshire Three Peaks Trail - basically a giant game of ‘Fetch the Summit’. 😎☀️ Let me break our 10 hour hike down for you: Peak 1: Pen-y-Ghent: I started my day with a steep climb up Pen-y-Ghent. The view from the top? Pawsitively breathtaking! 😲 But honestly, I was more interested in sniffing out those sheep. 🐑 You know, priorities! Peak 2: Whernside: The hooman was huffing and puffing, but I was like, “Come on! We’re just getting started!” 💪 I even did a little doggy dance to keep her spirits up. 🎶 Peak 3: Ingleborough: The rocky scramble? Piece of kibble! I aced it. 🐾 But my hooman? We visited the tulips in Harrison this year and wasn’t disappointed 🌹🥰 this location is stunning and so many areas to hang out and take family photos. Before the Litto Wild Pack, there was the Shiba Pack ✨ Any OGs out there who followed us before our handle change? Aka, the time before Kiko came into the picture and flipped our home upside down? All jokes aside, we were the Shiba Pack with these three, and boy, life was different back then. I’ll never forget the chaos and abundance of entertainment we had with our pack of four. Unless I live on a farmstead with huge acreage, Isak and I have agreed that we’ll never have four dogs again. Unforgettable and fun, yes, but our life definitely revolves around our dogs, and I think 15 or so years of it is enough for a lifetime. We always talk about wanting a break down the line to travel the world without dogs. I look at friends without pets, and it’s pretty epic that they can randomly decide to fly out to the other side of the country for the weekend. As dog owners, we can’t do that. There is so much planning and pressure behind just living life sometimes, and I feel like it’s not talked about enough. Us dog parents are doing amazing for our fur kids foreal 🤌🏼✨ I love my dogs, and honestly wouldn’t have it any other way right now. But I also can’t wait for my next mini pack in the future. I wonder what their stories will be and how we’ll find them crossing our life’s paths. For now, we’re living in the moment with our goofballs and making some of my favorite life memories. Multi-dog homes, would you do it again? Do you want a break in between?

4/20/2024: ⛰️🥾 My first hike of the year! Of course it was with @outyorkadventures and some amazing hikers. We had so much fun and loved being in the mountains so much, we were about to spend the night at the Overlook Mountain House but it just happened that they are out of business. Maybe I didn't grab them because I just never anticipated something like this. But now that it's happened, I feel as though I can't trust them anymore - around other dogs, or off-leash. ___ I know now that I'm in over my head, and I need help. We are going to be looking into anxiety medication for Apollo, as well as looking into a trainer for behavioral modification for the both of them. I’ve been here quite a few times and always take the photo from the same angle. Decided to try a different angle and I really like the way it came out.
Boots and I have been somewhat offline the past few days as we were out backpacking on the AT. We have one more day of about 9 miles to finish our trip! Today we pulled 15.6mi. The longest we’ve done with full packs in quite a while. We’re at an awesome hostel and Boots is sound asleep. Tomorrow we finish what we set out to do.
Today was, well, an interesting one. The symptoms stuck around until this evening but we did manage a 2.2mi hike this afternoon to one of our favorite peaceful spots. We chilled by the stream for a while and listened to the rushing water. We both needed that time.
