Let’s talk about unity. Last year I was commisioned by the city of Roeselare in Belgium to create an artwork inspired by Albrecht Rodenbach, a local poet, rebel and folk hero who is considered one of the symbols of Flemish movement. My concept for this artwork was twofold: on one hand, it speaks of idea transmission; a singular idea being sparked into existence from ether, and then having so much charge that it spreads, grows, multiplies and develops into a wave of many, until an aggregate becomes a movement, a revolution, and finally a change. We are united and divided by what we believe the world to be. On the other hand, it also speaks of us humans coming from the same source as singular beings, but then learning through trials of life that the ultimate craving we all share is that primal sense of unity and belonging. It’s both a need and a law of life on earth. We can only truly live-love-laugh in co-exhistence and collaboration with others, as well as to create and build in a meaningful way that lasts and doesn’t do harm. — An interesting coincidence about this artwork is the location - the mural talking about unity and co-existence is right in front of a bar where local right-wing nationalists and separatists like to hang out daily. Oyeee gather children! 👵🏼not only two months have passed and here I am finally getting round to explain the idea behind the wall I’ve done this June for @muralfestival 🤡💖 Titled the same as it reads at the top ‘I AM ONLY HERE BECAUSE YOU WERE HERE BEFORE ME’, it addresses both the location locally and the concept of genesis/sequentiality of us as humans globally. 🔮 The street where the wall is located on has been shut for 2years, as during renovation works they had to do an archaeological dig because pieces of indigenous peoples habitat been found. Montreal was built on top of layers of First Nations culture and history, and it’s something I felt important to pay homage to in my work. On a universal/existential scale, we humans come into this world and then go out a quick 70-80years later, leaving but crumbs of our existence for others to take and construct their realities on. We are born into this material plane as genetic, social, psychological continuations of people that came before us, of structures that have been built, and histories that have been lived and repeated; and in that time window while we are here on Earth, we choose what to build on, or maybe what to demolish. We are a chain, a sequence, an ouroboros, and we are only here because there were others before us. And this continuity is another concept I talk about here. Also - as it is often in street art world - This wall was painted on top of @fintan_magee’s work, and very soon after me leaving, it was all tagged up by local writers. Probably won’t be too long until somebody else will paint over, and then another cycle of reincarnation will be complete. The End. 😊 It was a lot of fun! 🐸A BIT OF FROGSTORY!🐸 It’s no secret that I drove up entire Australian East coast TWICE, sleeping in the boot of my uncle’s banged up Ford Wagon on the beaches, jungles and illegally in national parks 🚗🌅 🦋🐛🌴🪨🌊I have encountered many spirits, mushrooms and weird creatures along the way, so when Sydney-based bunch of cyclists who also make immaculate clothing as @attaquer got in touch for a collab, it was a no brainer what the collection should be about: A weird unguided ramble into the womb of nature that you come back from wiser, older, more attuned to the world and more at odds with society. 🌚✨ Another piece of history is that I was introduced to DAT BOI COMINNN frog meme at exactly the same time as I was thinking of concepts, so I might have been frog-biased NGL 😅 The collection is available via @attaquer web shoppy and they ship worldwide. 🎉Happy 700th birthday to Vilnius🎉, city where I was born and raised until a ripe age of 18!! 🐣 ✋✋Raise of hands who knows where it is???👹 For me Vilnius wasn’t the easiest city to fall in love with despite the (in)famous campaign naming it the “G-spot of Europe” (it’s real, look it up😅); it took many many travels across the world and living in different places to see how good life can be here. I stopped trying to make it what’s it’s not and learned to love it for what it is duh and now it’s my safe place where I touch ground and recharge 💖 Also I did some really fun projects in Vilnius, namely my first sculpture commission, special thanks to @govilnius💓 Hopefully more to come!
