N E W 🍷 Now Available by the Glass 🇮🇹 A real gem from Puglia - Primitivo Appassimento ‘Preciso’. You may be familiar with the traditional air-drying Appassimento technique – but this wine undergoes a different version. Once the grapes are fully ripe in mid-August, the stems of the bunches of grapes are twisted/pinched by hand and effectively strangled to prevent any more water reaching the grapes. The bunches are then left for 10-14 days to partially dry, the technique ‘Giro del Picciolo’ results in a loss of water of around 30% before being hand-harvested. It’s no shrinking violet and absolutely jumps out of the glass – big, rich and bold. Det økologiske kooperativ MasVin (maslina i vino = oliven og vin) nær Zadar smider en ganske god én i glasset, genkendelig og alligevel sin egen: Det er en fyldig sag med duft og smag af violer, skovbær, sorte kirsebær, blå blommer og svesker og små strejf af mandel, nellike og vanille. Saft og kraft i god balance, afstemt syre og frugtsødme, faste men fine tanniner. VinoMolim.dk 🍇 Crljenak er et kroatisk synonym for Zinfandel, den fra Californien så velkendte rødvinsdrue, hvis europæiske rødder først blev sporet til syditalienske Primitivo og siden til den dalmatiske Crljenak Kaštelanski, også kendt som Tribidrag, som indtil forrige århundrede var hoveddruen langs Adriaterhavets østkyst. Siden veg den pladsen for sit eget afkom, Dalmatiens i dag mest plantede druesort Plavac Mali. 🍷 Arriscou Itália? Errou. A uva Primitivo (bastante conhecida também como Zinfandel) é de origem Croata, local no qual é conhecida por Crljenak Kaštelanski. Bem no início do século XVIII cruzou, o mar adriático, aí sim chegando à região da Puglia, na Itália. Atualmente a principal região produtora de vinhos com essa uva é a California, onde são produzidos desde vinhos simples para consumo imediato, até rótulos mais complexos, encorpados e com bastante álcool. Vinhos produzidos por essa uva geralmente em regra se apresenta com coloração rubi média, com aromas de frutas escuras em compota, amora preta, chá preto e mirtilo. Não raros apresentam açúcar residual com um delicioso dulçor. 2019 Duca Carlo Guarini Vigne Vecchie Primitivo. This wine was chosen to pair with steak and vegetables. Having seasoned the steaks only slightly spicier (black pepper mostly) than usual seemed to enhance the pleasurable flavors of this Primitivo. And it worked beautifully. Puglia, Italy certainly has its treasure trove of grape varieties of Negroamaro, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Trebbiano and, of course, blends of some of those or others grown there as well. Most agree that Primitivo is favored in the rich soil composition of Terra rossa (red soil), and limestone of Manduria producing the best expression of the grape over those growing in Terra nera (dark soil)- elements of tufa, limestone and sand. Though this may result in a slightly toned down (a bit) in terms of aromatics, also produce great wine in neighboring Salento. On the other hand, “Vigne vecchie” means the grapes come from older vineyards which affect concentration, complexity and depth of the fruit. It still has the characteristic flavors of plum, licorice, and dark cherry, and in production keep practices in place to refrain from masking the fruit.
