The primary bedroom at Saltwater Manor is one of my fav rooms in the house for obvious reasons. A comfy king sized bed, a huge walk in closet with a full length mirror for all of your mirror selfies, a wall-mounted tv, a door that takes you directly to the hot tub, windows with the most gorgeous ocean views, and an ensuite with a soaker tub and jetted shower. It’s a great place for rest and relaxation.

Saltwater Manor is limited-mobility friendly and we’re planning some upgrades to make it more wheelchair accessible. Lisa Walters from @accessyyt has stayed with us to let us know how accessible our home is to mobility aid users and people with limited mobility, and she has provided tips on how to improve on that. We have a ramp on the front entrance, wide open space inside for navigating with a mobility aid, a kitchen with everything in reach from a wheelchair, and a walk in shower with a bench. But we wouldn’t classify ourselves as wheelchair accessible yet, especially because we currently don’t have a wheelchair accessible washroom (like toilet grab bars and a tub or shower that would be easier to transfer into from a wheelchair.) Lisa says: “Saltwater Manor was great for my needs as an ambulatory wheelchair user. I could easily wheel all throughout the house and prepare food in the kitchen from my wheelchair. The bed was easy to get onto and it was also great having a shower bench so I didn’t have to stand in the shower. So if you’re someone with limited mobility who is looking for a beautiful place to stay with no stairs that is easy to navigate, Saltwater Manor would be great. But for those of you who are not ambulatory, it could pose a challenge, which is why I was invited to stay and provide the owners with information on how to improve on accessibility.” As we work on some improvements and gather more assistive devices to make Saltwater Manor a more inclusive and welcoming space for our guests, we’ll post more about it. In the meantime, our new website that we’ll be sharing soon has information about what is and what isn’t accessible at Saltwater Manor so guests can see if our vacation home will be the right fit for their needs. We recognize how crucial it is to be transparent about accessibility and inaccessibility so no guests will ever be caught off guard. In 2020 when the world was quite, we started to work with Dominique Hurley, a wonderful artist and photographer exchanging stays for her to create content for some of our properties like The Red House in Ferryland and The Church in Quidi Vidi. More than high quality photos, Dominique seemed to capture the soul of the place and brought her artistic eye to bear. Last year, we worked quite a bit with Ryan Clark of @wanderingnl and now we are at it again. This winter we hosted Cora Lee Rennie of NL Coastal Adventures at two of our properties in Quidi Vidi. Mummering- the Newfoundland tradition of dressing up in disguise and visiting homes of neighbours and friends and even neighbouring communities. In a disguised voice, mummers ask if they are allowed in once inside music is usually played for the mummers to dance. A beverage or a “nip” is offered and the hosts have to try and guess who the mummers are. This usually occurs during the 12days of Christmas.
