Shoutout to Myles, a senior at Malone University studying Exercise Science and Psychology, for completing his internship with GiGi's Playhouse Canton! Myles plays soccer for the Malone Pioneers and Ambassadors Football Club, plays the cello and bass guitar, and enjoys hiking, trying new coffee spots, and thrifting. He also loves playing board games and reading books (he has read the Harry Potter series 4x!) A fun fact not everyone knows about Myles is that he lived in Taiwan for 15 years from ages 3-18. If you've seen Myles around the Playhouse, you have likely found him helping with GiGiFIT or joining the Stark State OTA crew on Fridays playing bingo and working on social skills with the adults. "Little did I know that in search for an internship for school that I would find a place as wonderful as GiGi's Playhouse, Inc.. I had never heard of the institution before this year and now it’s an enormous part of my life and I’ve already learned so much in the time I’ve been here. The full time staff are literally some of the best people I’ve met and are truly willing to help with anything regardless of how random the category they somehow always have an answer. The best word I could use to describe them would be resourceful and definitely hard working. They deserve more credit. The relationships I’ve been able to build in the short time I’ve been here have truly been heart touching and I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better place to intern at. So many opportunities to learn here at GiGi’s whether that be observing an OT during Destination Discovery or the GOAT teaching GiGiFIT, you’ll always be occupied here the opportunities are truly endless thanks to a creative and organized team." ✨ VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT ✨ Meet Dana Brown, our exceptional literacy tutor at GiGi’s Playhouse Canton, as we dive into her story, her favorites, and the transformative power of GiGi’s One-on-One Literacy Tutoring program. As a Literacy Tutor, Dana plays a pivotal role in shaping the reading journeys of her students. From shared reading sessions and mastering phonics and sight words to delving into the depths of reading comprehension, Dana’s approach is as diverse as the learners she guides. Dana’s favorite moments at GiGi’s Playhouse are the breakthroughs, those instances when the lightbulb turns on for her students: “It’s like watching them realize their own potential in real time. It brings me so much joy I could do cartwheels! If only I could still do them,” Dana laughs. We are in need of tutors for summer session, and now is the time to get started as a volunteer! ✨ BEST OF ALL ✨ Our GiGi's Kitchen Teen program leader, Paige, gave us our newest Best of All moment to highlight from Tanya! Paige shared, "Tanya’s Best of All moments are the dance parties after kitchen, she’s a pro dancer and will jam out to any song she hears. Tanya has made many new friends in the kitchen while learning how to cooking, read recipes, and be safe in the kitchen!" Tanya has made many friends in GiGi’s Kitchen and has made amazing accomplishments with cooking, recipes, and kitchen safety. Through education about knife safety, Tanya has overcome her fear of knives and now participates cutting produce. Tanya has also improved on using her inside voice and being mindful of her friends in the kitchen. Tanya has great listening skills and often responds to our volunteer leaders saying, “Yes, Chef!” when following instructions. Maylee (14 years) has been coming out of her shell recently – she was engaging with peers and initiating conversation, when she usually has a very shy personality. We are so proud of her for this! Way to go, Maylee! Our goal at GiGi’s Playhouse is to celebrate every display of a learner’s Best of All! We do this through purposeful programs at our Playhouses that start at the prenatal stage and develop into adulthood, such as GiGiFIT!
