Derwentwater 💚 I wanted to catch the early morning sun lighting up Catbells as it rose above the fells. Mum and I were staying at the lovely @linnetthillkeswick so the lake was only a short walk away. Took this before breakfast, one of the best times of the day. Run out on Wednesday night over Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and Esk Pike and back into Eskdale via Esk Pikes south ridge. The ridge has some smaller summits (Pike de Bield, High Gait Crags, and Scar Lathing) dropping gradually down into the valley. The upper Esk is a wild area, where you'll get away with no coming across anyone, the perfect wilderness. Surrounded by some of the best mountains in the Lakes, it is a contrast to the crowds of Great Langdale, just over the other side.
