Tonight starts the celebration of 10 years of Leeds Palestinian Film Festival! 🙌🙌🙌 Tonight @leedspff are screening two documentaries GAZA FIGHTS FOR FREEDOM and BETWEEN FIRE AND SEA at HEART, Headingley from 7PM! Both these documentaries are about the Great March of Return, Gaza’s 2018-19 peaceful mass protest movement. Tonight's first film, directed by Abby Martin, features first hand accounts from those who took part, including journalists and medics. The second documentary on this evening follows the journey of Ahmed Abu Artema, who advocates non-violent resistance. After losing his son in the most recent war, is Ahmed still committed to non-violent resistance? How does he reassure the rest of his kids to not be frightened of the warplanes? The questions to these answers will be revealed at the end of the screening through an exclusive recording by Ahmad himself. This will be a very interesting evening that you won't want to miss so make sure to get tickets for this from the link in our bio! That's tonight but there's lots more happening for the 10th anniversary! As these documentaries are being screened again on Wednesday 1 May at HEART where there will also be a Q&A facilitated by Juman Quneis, a Palestinian Filmmaker and teacher of journalism. On Saturday April 27 at 7PM at HEART they are screening FLYING PAPER/RETURN TO SEIFA. It’s a story of young people in the Gaza Strip on a quest to shatter the Guinness World Record for the most kites ever flown. RETURN TO SEIFA follows the progress of two siblings from FLYING PAPER. Also screening on that night is GAZA, ONE FOOTBALL, ONE LEG. On Wednesday 9 May ONE MORE JUMP is screening at Otley Courthouse at 7PM about the Gaza parkour team. On Saturday 10 February, Rat Depot are screening FALLEN ANGELS at HEART at 7 PM! This is a one night only Valentine’s special screening of Wong Kar-Wai's nocturnal classic, so make sure you don't miss it! This super stylish film focuses on lost souls of Hong Kong's late nightlife focusing on five characters who feel isolated, lonely and desperate for any kind of connection in the hustle and bustle of the city. It follows a hit man and his partner who have worked together for three years but have never met. Due to this he becomes a mysterious presence to his partner who becomes slightly obsessed. On a chance encounter at McDonald's, Wong forms a connection with a woman called Blondie causing jealousy from his work partner. He wants to get out the hitman game but of course there's one last job. There's also a side story of a mute who's escaped from prison and bumps into the same girl, Charlie, every night who is trying to find Blondie. All the characters interconnect with each other as they exist in the night life of Hong Kong. Wide angles, hand-held cameras, quick cuts, slow motion, freeze frames, black and white sections, narration letting us know of their internal struggles, dark greens and neons, all create at times a contemplative and other times hyperkinetic and frenetic movie, making it a must-see!
