[FO] Using leftover #hebridean2ply from my Polaris cardigan-vest, I cast on a second Henry VII hat designed by Alice Starmore. Although this version uses many less colors than the original design, I still think it’s lovely. The textured color-work cuff reminds me of medieval jewels. Tredje advent, tredje vilande stickningen i skåpet. Ljuvliga sjalen Primavera från Virtual Yarns, ett UFO av det tyngre slaget. Påbörjat: 2017. Senast stickat på: oklart, gissningsvis 2018. Anledning att det pausades: en lång historia, men i sammanfattning så var detta det första flerfärgade projektet jag påbörjade i modern tid (sedan 90-talet). Jag visste inte om jag skulle klara det, med många färgbyten och komplicerat mönster, men det gick bra och jag stickade glatt på tills det blev en paus för något annat. Under pausen lärde jag mig dock om färgdominans och vikten av att garn i olika färger hålls konsekvent när man stickar. Något jag väl typ visste och följde innan, men inte så noggrant, vilket jag ju ser nu. Luften kan man väl lugnt säga gick ur efter det. Prognos för färdigställande: medel. Ibland tycker jag att de ojämnheter som finns inte spelar någon roll eftersom färgerna är fantastiska, ibland känns det motigt att fortsätta sticka medvetet ”fel” för att få det lika, och ännu konstigare att sticka resten ”rätt” om det sticker ut. A tale of three textures. My friends will tell you that I am not the most monogamous knitter and once a pattern and yarn from my stash feel like they are in perfect harmony my fingers get that familiar itch. Over the years I have come to accept this as part of the way I enjoy my practice and am perfectly fine with it. In fact it often happens that if I put down a project for a long time to concentrate on a new one there may be something I’m not quite happy with so it acts as a secondary selection process or enormous swatch if you will. No such trouble so far with these three beautiful pieces. Left to my own devices I will sit on the sofa like a knitting one person band picking up each one at some point in the evening. Even though they are all quite simple stocking stitch garments the shades and textures give plenty of textural variety. As you may know, since I moved house, despite giving away and selling what felt like a great deal of yarn that no longer matched the knitter I now am, I was forced to confront how much yarn I had hoarded by over the years. Part of the plan for reducing the amount I am holding on to is giving myself permission to use the really special stuff. I’m a good enough knitter and these beautiful materials need to become something beautiful and useful. This #alicestarmore #hebridean2ply is a good example of this. Finally finished Jade Starmore’s Loch Lomond. It is a rather easy design but the border caused me some problems in the beginning and all the bobbles are rather time consuming. I also spent days finishing it but I am pleased with the result. I also love the way it matches the Persian Tiles shawl I knitted this summer. At some point I was very progress oriented but I think I am leaning towards being process and perfection oriented (the latter is somewhere in the future) and I can hear Ms Starmore saying: all the stitches must be of the same size and go slowly even in my dreams. I think I will wear this a lot. [EN in the comments] * Ende November 2021 habe ich diesen Pullover begonnen und Anfang Oktober 2022 fertiggestellt. Es war mir beim Anschlagen schon klar, dass das wieder ein laaanges Projekt sein würde. Das hat mich jedoch nicht gestört. Irgendwann wird so ein Pullover fertig. Zwischendurch hatte ich auch andere Dinge gemacht: Wieder mal mit Perlen gewebt, das Nadelfilzen begonnen (was ich durchaus fortsetzen möchte) und in das Holzschnitzen reingeschnuppert (und festgestellt, dass das eher nichts für mich ist). Kontinuierlich habe ich an diesem Pullover gearbeitet, auch wenn es manchmal einfach nur eine Reihe war. • Der Pullover ist "Grima" von Elsebeth Lavold. Ich nenne meine Version Elen of the Ways nach einer weiblichen Sagengestalt, die ein Geweih trägt. Das finde ich passend, da die Wollfarbe "red deer" ("Rotwild) heißt und mich auch das Muster an ein Geweih erinnert. • Ich habe ein paar Änderungen vorgenommen. Weekend knits 🧶 Fair Isle knitting has always been my favourite. While both the Hebridean 2ply and the British Breeds are great for colour work, their textures are totally different! The longest project I have ever knitted in colourwork. There are approximately 450 rows. Each takes circa 7 minutes depending on my flow. So many hours will be invested in the project. As many as 60. Knitting is serious focused work that requires training and time and money. Contrary to what many non knitters think. In Danish we use the term hjemmestrikket (homeknitted) for actual knitting but also for something that looks non professional. I try not to use it. I really try to honour the sheep and do my best. I finished my Wave cardigan after one week of finishing. For instance I knitted the 4500 stitches of the button band twice as I was not happy. And I heard the designer’s voice saying go slow and check or it will be ugly knitting. Or something like that.Trying to improve my technique and learn something new with each new project and improving my tension when I knit colour work. There is a bit of an issue with the shoulders that I don’t know how to correct. I love the colours of this cardi and I love seeing how the colours play together with each row. Guess what I hope to do this weekend ? A new course for me from Alice and Jade Starmore. Creative Course 1 Experimental Felting. I knit lots of swatches to practice felting, and then practice embroidery . Hopefully they will make it to a scrapbook. Trouble is the sun is shining brightly and the wind is very very warm. I understand the process of felting is pretty warm work. My most challenging knitting so far! I’m very happy with the outcome. The design is by Alice Starmore, Marina cardigan. I bought a kit from Virtual Yarns, and knitted in Hebridean 2-ply which is a wonderful yarn. Buttons from Tant Kofta. Modifications: a tighter fit, longer arms, and v-neck instead of crew neck.
