Today, we provided a water buffet for the ponies using... Salt, which is a natural anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ingredient. Cleavers, which are great for the lymphatic system and urinary tract. Nettles that contain many vitamins and minerals that benefit horse’s health, with the added bonus of being very palatable. They have been said to aid the digestive system, the urinary system, and help with skin conditions and joint pain. Mint which is used to aid digestion and encourage the horses to drink. Lastly, turmeric is used for its anti-inflammatory benefits and for joint pain and arthritis. Turmeric is also given to combat skin irritations, gut health, liver problems, and even sarcoids. Hero is the oldest member of our herd. This is my non-negotiable Horses need to live with other horses. At the very minimum, they need to touch another horse over the fence. Sheep, cows, etc aren't valid substitutes Horses can't get a deep sleep without other horses watching over them. They may sleep but it won't be as restful or stress-free as if they're part of a herd. Horses naturally live in a herd. It's unnatural for them to be alone. Horses need each other for support, safety and comfort. The lack of this can result in high-stress levels and have an adverse effect on the horse's health/welfare. Horses enjoy the company. Grooming and play are vital to maintaining happy and healthy horses.

„Sind 2 Pferde nicht genug?“ Jein würd ich sagen… also ich spreche von der Haltung in Eigenregie. Seit 3 Jahren leben meine beiden bei mir zuhause und ich würde mal behaupten es geht ihnen sehr gut. Sie sind zufrieden, ausgeglichen und spielen, ruhen, fressen und krabbeln sich zusammen. Also die Ausgangssituation passt und ich habe auch keine Eile mit dem dritten Pferd. Trotzdem wünsche ich mir zum Beispiel für Ari einen Kumpel mit dem er mal so richtig „einen drauf“ machen kann und für Gösli, dass er sich etwas rausnehmen kann, wenn er einfach mal ruhen möchte. Er wird ja auch nicht jünger mit seinen 26 Jahren. Für mich aber wichtig: Sie sind eine kleine Familie und nach Möglichkeit (also so lange sie bei mir zuhause leben) bleibt das auch so. Ich möchte sie ungern trennen, denn für mich gehören jung und alt zu einer stabilen bunten Herde dazu!
