When I was in Nambe, I stayed on @groundstonefarm - a sweet 5 acre organic farm growing a variety of crops ranging from greens, herbs, fruits, flowers, and seeds,,, passionate about land-race varieties and preserving crop diversity, heritage, and story,,, that also has bees, chickens and two adorable farm dogs Kaya and Hodges, with Kaya the farm dog having no problem trotting over and checking in on you,,, RUFF 🐶 The property is on Tewa land surrounded by the pueblos of Nambé and Pojoaque. The valley it sits in has also been home to Hispanic peoples for the last four hundred years and has a long history of agriculture which Matt & Nina are proud to continue and honor… The farm uses traditional irrigation from the acequia that fills a pond at the top of the property, and another that runs through the middle. Acequias are shared waterways, the blood veins of traditional local communities in New Mexico that make life and farming possible here, and acequia water distribution is the oldest form of government in this area, predating the United States. Ground Stone Farm, which Matt runs, supplies their adjacent distribution business, which Nina runs - Squash Blossom Local Food, supports dozens of other local farms, selling their produce wholesale to restaurants, and through a local food subscription service to the general public,,, and you can find them every Saturday at the Santa Fe Farmers Market.
