It houses a public library & hosts many events & installations. The Bela Rosin, wife of King Vittorio Emanuele II, never became queen. For this reason, when she died in 1885, she was not buried in the Pantheon in Rome, where the Savoy king rested. I love old train stations! This is Milan’s train station on our way to Turin. We went straight to the Royal Palace which is now a gorgeous museum. Built in 1525 with many alterations it was originally the House of Savoy and then the royal Palace when Italy became a unified country. I didn’t know that! I expected a little more over the top Baroque but this is pretty epic. The first room is for staging, the noble room, the throne room and the armory with amazing examples from the early renaissance. Era il terzogenito del Principe Amadeo di Savoia, Duca d’Aosta (secondo maschio di Re Vittorio Emanuele II) e della sua prima moglie, la Principessa Maria Vittoria dal Pozzo della Cisterna. Il titolo Duca degli Abruzzi fu creato da Re Umberto I (suo zio) nel 1890 per Luigi Amedeo che divenne molto famoso per le sue esplorazioni nell’Artico e per le sue spedizioni alpinistiche, in particolare sul Monte Sant’Elia (Alaska) e sul K2. Fu Ammiraglio della Regia Marina durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale.
