“Titanic was called the ‘Ship of Dreams’. And it was…it really was” It is 112th Anniverary of Titanic’s sinking. I am behind on sharing pictures from the last few months, but today felt appropriate to share one of my favorite pictures from my most recent visit to one of the most incredible museums I have ever been to. The Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, TN. This Grand Staircase was recreated to scale. You got to walk up it to continue through the museum and back down at the end. I have always been fascinated by this tragic history and obsessed with the movie ever since I saw it in theaters. Of course I was beaming being able to experience what it may have been like to walk down that staircase and wish I had a Rose cosplay to accompany it, but I also held space and felt the weight of just all that was lost and could have been prevented. (Also, the score from the film played in that area and it always tugs at my heartstrings). The museum also had so much information of things I didn’t even realize or know before. Several iconic movie props recently went under the gavel, but it was a piece of the fictional version of the Titanic that outsold everything. The “floating door” was part of a door frame from above the movie oceanliner’s first-class lounge entrance, Heritage Auctions said. It was the chunk of balsa wood that Kate Winslet floated on, and Leonardo DiCaprio held onto after the ship sank. There have been debates over the years about whether Winslet’s Rose could have allowed DiCaprio’s Jack to climb on the debris, which measured about eight feet long and three feet wide. One thing that wasn’t under debate was the value of the prop which sold for more than some people’s homes, coming in at $717,750. But it wasn’t just items from “Titanic” for sale. The Unsinkable Titanic! The inspiration for this post was initially that I thought Ursula's torso sort of resembled Rose's dress from Titanic--with the exception of the lavender skin... So I decided to just roll with it and make lavender Rose. And obviously Rose needed a Jack, but unfortunately, I didn't have any male heads in fun colors. But then I remembered those pictures of Winona Ryder where she's dressed like Jack from Titanic so we have Jackie instead. Clearly the next logical step was to make them aliens and therefore have the Titanic itself be a spaceship much like in one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes, "Voyage of the Damned". So I took the ship suit guy's costume and built it out into a starfaring vessel. Anyways, that's the very long and convoluted story of how I ended up making Alien Lesbian Titanic™️. Did I mention that I've never seen Titanic? So yeah in my brain this is all canon and no one can tell me otherwise. You can see all my reference pics on the last slide. For a long time I had the idea of redoing the lace top under Rose’s flying gown. After the jump dress the flying dress was my second dress that I ever made and while I was extremely haply with the outcome I did not do an amazing job with the lace top. A few months ago I came across this beautiful vintage style lace and the off white color was very suited for this exact piece. When creating this top I refined the look by cutting out more floral elements from the lace and hand sewed them into certain places to round up the design. Two scallops on top also were inserted by hand to make the scallops look denser. “Make it count. Meet me at the clock.” After filming on set in Rosarito was completed, the tableclothes from the dinner scene were cut up for rags or tossed or kept by a few individuals. When I heard that my bestie @titanic_zachdouglas is cutting up and selling a huge piece of such a tablecloth that found its way into his hands I was interested. However it was not from any tablecloth. It was from THE table! Yes!! The table that Jack and Rose sat on. The table that toasted “To making it count!”. I learned that it is easy to tell its the exact one because it was the only oval table and a rounding can still be seen on the “scrap” piece. I was so happy to be able to make a piece of it my own.
