Woke up this morning to the sound of our cat, Freddy, running back and forth a few times downstairs, then he stopped right below our bedroom and meowed literally every few seconds for several minutes straight, non-stop like a kitty wake-up alarm. 😼⏰ When he heard me laughing at him about it, he ZOOMED up the stairs as fast as lightning, appeared next to our bed, and let out a single meow, as if saying “hello?” 😸 That made me laugh even harder, and when I reached down to pet him, he leaned into the petting for only a second before he ZOOMED back downstairs. 😹 Now, he’s sleeping peacefully in one of his beds, and I’m tempted to sit at the base of his cat tree and meow at him until he looks at me, then run away. Day 67. Ten years ago today was the last time I saw Zoe. Although she was not typically one to wander, she vanished without a trace from our fenced-in patio. Day 64. I’ve just realized with great dismay that I have no pictures of Bindi during his last 6 months of life. HOW did that happen?! I’ve got a bazillion pics over his lifetime and now, when they would mean so much, I have none. The kitten and young cat pics are fun to see, but our great love hadn’t matured yet, and my lasting memories of him will be of his/our senior years when our bond was strong. This piece was done from a photo taken 6 months ago right before a vet visit. He had stopped eating then too, and I was so afraid I’d be confronted with a gut-wrenching decision. Day 58. Another cool story. I answered the door this afternoon to find a driver holding a vase of flowers. I thought perhaps from a friend who’d just learned about Bindi’s passing. Imagine my surprise to read the card…from ‘Joe and the Chewy family.’ (For anyone who doesn’t know, Chewy is an online seller of branded pet food and grooming supplies.) To explain, I’d called on Friday to cancel future auto ship orders. The rep was very curt and the conversation ended abruptly. The next day I received email requesting feedback…why had I cancelled auto ship and how was my experience with rep. I replied kitty no longer with me and rep was unpleasant. Yesterday I got phone call from Joe, a supervisor, very apologetic. We had pleasant conversation and hung up. Never would I have imagined receiving flowers with a sympathy note. And of all things they’re YELLOW, a color I’m especially connected to right now since my last sight of Bindi was of him being wrapped in a yellow blanket! Day 51. I was feeling totally uninspired today and thought maybe I’d discontinue #the100dayproject and be happy that I’d completed 50 days.
