FUN FACT FRIDAY Friends: Portulacaria Afra Science name: Portulacaria Afra, also known as Elephant Bush plant. Portulacaria Afra is a small-leaved succulent plant found in South Africa. They come in the variegated design as you see here in this image or a cultivar with solid-colored leaves. This beautiful succulent is simple to care for, which makes them an easy house plant to have (I'm still feeling mine out, I will let you guys know). I have had mine for almost 2 months now. This succulent requires warm temperatures and bright indirect light. Watering: Every 7-10 days during the Summer months. They tend to lay dormant during the Winter, so around that time you will want to wean off watering too often. This plant can grow as tall as 6-to 20-feet tall in its natural habitat. But indoors it will grow about a few feet tall. Fun insight: This succulent is also known as an elephant bush plant as I have mentioned above, so that's right, you've guessed it, there is some association with elephants🐘. Elephants actually eat this plant as a part of their diet☺️. Yes friends it is edible. Now, I have not tried it, so I cannot tell you how it tastes. But according to my research (it's edible-try at your own risk if you so desire). This plant is non-toxic to humans and pets, so if you have a furry friend they will be just fine if they take a bite🐕🐈. For the longest I could not find a growing pot to fit this planter. It was either too small, too tall, or it didn’t fill out the planter. I was about to give up; when I went into the paint section and stumbled upon the bucket liners painters use. They are available in two sizes; and they not as thick as the growing pots, but it works. I also like that they are bendable and you can shape them to fit in those oddly shaped pots.. Sometimes you just have to think outside the box and get creative.
All that’s needed sometime is a little TLC.. Rescued these a couple weeks ago and cleaned up all the damaged and dead leaves.. Look at this beauty now..
Didn’t feel like playing with this 95 degrees weather Miami having today; so I decided to Repot inside, and catch up on my shows. Having this repotting mat makes this so easy and mess free. This is one thing I never knew I needed until I actually had it. Also Bonide systematic houseplant insect control is 🙌🏾 when it comes to gnats..

I just upgraded my Aloe Plant for the third time.. It started in a baby nursery pot and look at it now.. This is actually one of the first few indoor plants I got in late 2016and it’s still going strong.. This was after realizing it thrived better outside vs inside.. Today’s lesson: Sometimes you have to separate yourself in order to thrive.. This pothos is definitely the one that has taught me this. No matter how much I water it in the soil with the rest of the plant, this piece would look like its dying. The rest of the plant leaves would stand up, this piece would just droop.. I was kind of over it at this time; so I decided to take it out the soil and put it in water, where it’s now thriving..
