Jerusalem. Our day started by taking a taxi from Amman to King Hussein / Allenby Bridge, which is the only land border crossing between West Bank/Israel and Jordan. This crossing is mainly used by Palestinian pilgrims returning / going on Hajj to Mecca. Most Israelis cannot use this border crossing to go to Jordan. Everyone was carrying jugs of zamzam (holy) water. The border crossing was simple and easy for us (Israel loves the U.S. and India) but almost everyone else was subject to additional questioning. We took a shared shuttle (15 people total) into Jerusalem that was stopped at the exit for additional customs checks. Apparently someone smuggled contraband into the trunk. The shuttle was taken to an extra screening area. All the Muslims had to stay behind and non-Muslims (4 or 5 total) were swiftly given another (fancier/cleaner) shuttle to go to Jerusalem. Welcome to Israel. I entered Israel/Palestine with an open mind. Frankly I didn’t know much about the conflict. India and U.S. are very pro-Israel and I knew I was being presented with a one-sided argument. The trip was eye-opening. In these pictures you’ll see the two most contentious/significant sites in Jerusalem — the Al Aqsa Mosque/Temple Mount (one of the holiest sites for Muslims and Jews) and Western Wall / Kotel. I’m not going to talk about my own views on the ongoing situation in Gaza. Hoping for peace and understanding for all. 🤲 🙏

In fact, 𝗛𝗮𝗶 𝗞𝗲𝗳 𝗭𝗼𝗼, a small animal park in Rishon LeZion, which is in the Tel Aviv area, won my heart. I say, I enjoyed it even more than Safari Park or Haifa Educational Zoo, not to mention Hai Park Zoo in Kiryat Motzkin where I live. Notwithstanding the small sizes, Hai Kef has many interesting to share with its visitors. 🐃You won't see big cats, bears, elephants, giraffes or other giants of the wildlife here, but still you'll like to pet some goats, cows and donkeys, watch gorgeous owls and hawks & colorful cute parrots, feed monkeys and lemurs, see several local desert wildcats, eye buffalo, deers, kangaroos and ostriches and melt with chinchillas from faraway South America. I have my own sweet chinchilla at home but still can't help myself seeing these adorable little cuties somewhere else lol Not much, you say. Yeah, totally, but believe me, once you get into Hai Kef Zoo you'll get lost there for 1.5-2 hours, I promise. Bipolar update - I haven’t done one of these in a long time. I turned on zoom & was greeted with the usual warm smiles from my psychiatrist & social worker. I started the session by asking, “how long can a manic episode last for?”. Immediately their smiles dropped. I won’t go into details but after answering many questions, my psychiatrist wanted to admit me to the hospital for two weeks. I told them it wasn’t an option as I was not about to leave the kids for that long. They added a prescription of an atypical antipsychotic called Olanzapine & placed me with a more hands on psychiatric team. After I picked up the Olanzapine I read that it had a sedating effect & weight gain. Didn’t take it. I have a history of reacting poorly & being super sensitive to medication. Wednesday met with my new team & they convinced me to take 1/2 a pill. Well guess what? I took 1/2 a pill & it FLOORED me. It took me an hour 1/2 to wake up, I struggled to get the kids ready for school, I took two naps around two hours each & a friend watched the kids after school. I was barely functional, it was horrible. I spoke to my nurse this morning & told him I refuse to take Olanzapine ever again. Will discuss with psychiatrist midweek. I’d rather be strung out & manic than be a sedated zombie. This small but still magnificent National Park called 🅴🅸🅽 🅰🅵🅴🅺. Founded in 1979 on the territory of 165 Acres in total, the reserve includes water, wetlands, ponds, unique hiking and water trails, Antique buildings, a variety of birds and water plants and a wonderful floating wooden bridge running over the water source. The foremost attraction here is the stamping ground of wild buffalos, which you can watch from a viewpoint on the top of the hill. An ancient flour mill allows you to see gorgeous views of the Akko valley from its roof. The reserve is filled with aquatic and animal life. Many species of birds can be spotted here so bring your binoculars. Catfish are in abundance here and sometimes you can even see some tortoises in the area. 🪷There are various routes in Ein Afek Reserve with the leng of between 1-2 km.
