Scarface poster vibes 🖤🤍💥 A fun little collab with our friends at Lilith Guitars, i was super stoked when Chris hit me up with the rad idea for spraying a split black and white finish on this Jagmaster style guitar he was building for himself. The body had a centerline seam making it simpler for me to mask and spray it, and im pretty thrilled with how centered and straight i was able to keep the line. We gave it a medium/light relic job and it was sent back home to Chris for assembly with the matching headstock and pickguard he painted. He did a great job if i say so myself! It matches perfectly! Jazzmaster to Jaguar Conversion Part IV: It's been a while since I did any work on this project, having been pretty sidetracked by moving house 🏡 But the bridge should be coming from Staytrem any day now, so got to keep pushing forward! This step, again, is specific to my build, rather than Jazzmaster to Jaguar Conversion in general: even with a short leg base plate, the mini humbuckers are just too tall for the Jazzmaster cavity! A router would've been really handy here but I didn't have one, so a boring drill bit and sanding attachment in the Dremel had to do. The idea is to just take enough wood out that the pickup legs will fit in nicely and have room to move around freely for any adjustments that need to be made. 💀 Photo 1: The finished job, looking kinda reminiscent of a Mustang vibrato route... 💀 Photo 2: The problem - the pickguard sits way above the body without any modifications due to the pickup legs! 💀 Photo 3: Closeup of the problem inside the cavity 💀 Photo 4: Halfway through - this was working kinda okay but the pickup legs were rubbing against the deepened cavities and causing the pickups to sit angled in the pickguard. Not good for being able to adjust them properly in the future! 💀 Photo 5: Closeup of the finished cavity deepening. Hand Painted on a Squier Jazzmaster: "Lull to 4:8." This project was drawn with @tombowusa brush pens and Sakura pigma markers, and coloured in with @posca_usa acrylic markers and metallic pens. This guitar was fully built Squier Jazzmaster, and I took it apart and decided to re-paint it. The burgundy mist base colour was a pretty awesome-looking colour, so I wanted to incorporate that into the illustration somehow. Johnny Hodges - alto sax jazz star of the pre-Charlie Parker era, and longtime featured soloist in the Duke Ellington Orchestra. I’ve read that Duke collected players largely based on the colors they brought to the music, valuing their musical voice as much as any other attributes. Guys like Johnny Hodges and Ben Webster (another Ellington guy) haunt my soul. I very much embrace Duke’s sensibilities for tone, as that’s job one in my book. Please craft a beautiful, seductive tone, or go earnestly practice your tacit skills. Jazz, for all its embracing of the calculus of deviant musical adventure, seems to have lost a bit of the reverence it once had for beauty and elegance (YMMV). ❤️🎶

The album has nine tracks, with three Jordan originals — the title track, “The Time is Now,” and “The Music’s Gonna Change” (swipe right for an excerpt) — five Jordan penned in collaboration with others and a fascinating cover of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page’s classic rock number, “Stairway to Heaven.” This album, while showcasing Jordan’s undoubtedly fine guitar picking, is freighted by a surfeit of electronic programming and heavy on the synthesizers, typical of a lot of music produced — whether jazz, pop or rock — of the era. It’s a huge disappointment in light of Jordan’s talent — a great example of an album attempting to be all things to everyone and ending up nothing to anyone. In a 2.5-star AllMusic review, Scott Yanow writes: “Stanley Jordan switches largely to funk and pop on this disappointing set. The title cut has nothing to do with Lionel Hampton’s trademark song, and Jordan, whose phenomenal tapping technique allows him to play his instrument like a piano, waters down the whole effect by using overdubbing, multiple keyboards and a drum machine.
