Хилми Шеналп, архитектор памятника, расположенного у входа на Мост Мучеников 15 июля в Стамбуле, рассказал газете Sabah о символике куполообразного памятника, окруженного рядами сидений. «Купол представляет собой вечную жизнь мучеников. Он состоит из геометрических рук, которые являются данью единству и сплоченности нации против переворота. Именно это единство остановило попытку государственного переворота», - сказал Шеналп. Солдаты, связанные с Террористической группой Гюлениста (FETÖ), пытались захватить власть, но беспрецедентное общественное сопротивление, вызванное призывами президента Реджепа Тайипа Эрдогана к общественности выйти на улицы во имя демократии, сорвало переворот. В Стамбуле первым признаком разворачивающегося государственного переворота стали изображения солдат, захвативших Босфорский мост, название которого удачно было изменено на Мост Мучеников 15 июля. Большая толпа хлынула на мост, несмотря на обстрел всех, кто приближался к ним со стороны солдат, выступающих за переворот. Памятник, расположенный на азиатской стороне моста, имеет высоту 9,5 и диаметр 11 м и покрыт известняком. Пять арок построены по пяти углам пятиугольного купола. Внутри трех арок выгравированы имена 249 человек, погибших при попытке государственного переворота.
