Another productive day. I baked a mushroom and lentil lasagna that I could actually taste. I've also used my new rainbow task timer from @mrscrawfordspeakman to work on my essay on Flow, task inertia and delved into the research on hyper focus, procrastination and the usefulness of self imposed deadlines. The highlight was being about to include my favourite Douglas Adams quote into the essay: I love deadlines. I like the whooshing noise they make as they go by. Part 13 of 100 Owls is done. #Escoffier Culinary School Week 9 - Sautéed Protein with a pan gravy and Sautéed Veggies. I chose to experiment with making #fondantpotatoes and omg I’m so glad I did. So easy and so mmmmm yum Using the breast from the chicken I broken down a couple of weeks ago. I feel that my first round with any dish will feel chaotic. I find myself checking all the instructions time and again and making sure to check my required photo list and then take the pics. It still came together perfectly even though I had one small hiccup that I knew I could recover from and I did. In my Foodservice Course we are already on to week 4 come Tuesday. Wow. Time is flying. This week was LEADERSHIP. I know I have a lot of experience in that role but I didn’t realize how much being a teacher has really kept me in that role even though it’s only with kids and how my skills have expanded and can easily be transferred to a kitchen. I have a brigade of about 125, managing 6 shifts. I manage them all as one unit but also individually. I am listening to 5 different conversations while focusing on my own task at hand. No wonder I’m exhausted 😆. Then I have to plan my next day, my next week, and my next year. Fun stuff! The chicken was so soft and juicy and it just all came together nicely. I guess I get frustrated when I see countless adds trying to sell some new fancy shmancy supplement “are you tired? That’s because you could be burnout”. No shit Sherlock. Everyone can relate to being tired and exhausted at some point. It’s what gets you in. Remember the health industry is a business as well. Exhaustion doesn’t always equal burnout. Loosing passion for something you once loved doesn’t always equal burnout. Poor sleep doesn’t always equal burnout. Crappy boundaries doesn’t always equal Burnout. But, sometimes it does. Fatigue is the number one symptom worldwide presented in clinics. It’s not all burnout. Misdiagnosis happening all too often. So it’s important to take the time and really see what’s going on so YOU actually feel better and supported the best way possible. 💖💖
