Recently, thanks to the magic of IG Threads, I learned that in Hawaii, they don't use the term "owner." Their word is "Kahu," meaning honored attendant, guardian, keeper of bones, and caretaker. I really like that sentiment. Not that I keep my dog's bones, and no judgment if you do! I just keep their ashes (if I can). I say that because when my dog Hank passed, it all happened so fast, and I was in no financial position to afford to get his ashes back, so...I never got 'em. 😔 Sad, because Hank enriched my life for 13 years. It's for that reason that I value pet artistry so much. Not everyone has a memory they can keep, admire, and touch. If you're a pet lover, you get it. You just want them back around. 5.5 months, 32.10lbs & 20” tall Her love for the dock has officially started. She threw a fit anytime someone but her was jumping at the pool and had to be put in a kennel so she couldn’t watch - from the house, 200ft away. 🤣 She’s bold, fearless, spicy and a lil sweet. I shared this post last year and it’s a message that I think deserves to be shared every year. It’s so easy to look at someone’s social media and make assumptions because all you see is a small glimpse into someone’s life. It’s easy to make pack life sound simple, to let you forget the struggles that can and often do go along with it. My dogs do get along extremely well, but the reality of living with multiple high drive dogs is sometimes things go a little sideways. So, have a small glimpse into the reality of my life. I have a lil pitty who thinks she’s the biggest dog of the group. She also likes to fence fight with the neighbor dogs - who honestly don’t care at all. But where this goes sideways, is she takes that energy, that pent up frustration and will lash out at the closest sibling. Most of the pack have learned, the bitch is crazy (Saige & Bronson & Dakota - who have been in multiple small scuffles with her over the years) or (Baeric & Dax who have never shown her the time of day). Odin on the other hand is still figuring it out, so he goes into the red zone and Daisy starts shit that Daisy can’t finish. Today, she came away with battle wounds, 3 puncture marks on her leg - they’re superficial in just breaking the skin, no serious damage done. But, it could’ve been much, much worse. She could’ve been much worse had her brother decided to be much more serious than he did. Sometimes energy can take you places you didn’t mean to go. So many dogs struggle with making the correct choices, it’s our job to help them and guide them - but remember, we’re human and we often make mistakes that we have to learn from. All of this to say, don’t forget that there is so much more behind the scenes, not being videoed, not being pictured and not being captioned. Meet Genie! She is a five year old American bulldog mix that is absolutely perfect. Seriously. Just look at this amazing girl! Here is what a volunteer that has taken her home for sleepovers has reported- Perfect house manners! She is house trained. Enjoys lounging on the couch and snuggling. She likes to hang out in the kitchen and watch you cook. She will politely sit next to you on the couch while you eat and not bother you at all! Takes treats very gently. Has good leash manners, but does want to meet everyone she sees along the way. She occasionally likes to play with toys but I wouldn’t say she’s toy-crazy. She’s so silly sometimes and when she’s excited she will “talk” to you by snapping her mouth in the air as if she’s trying to tell you something. It’s adorable. She loves to go for car rides and is always up for a drive-thru for a pup cup! Everyone who meets her falls in love with her! Being a tri-pod doesn’t affect her mobility at all, but being in a home without a lot of stairs would probably be easier for her. She would love to sleep in bed with you, but is content to be in a dog bed nearby. She is mostly a very quiet dog. Doesn’t bark at other dogs when she’s in the yard. Happily, calmly and quietly visits other dogs at the fence. She will occasionally bark when she sees a dog walking past our house, but she’s just excited to see it and wants to go meet it. I forgot to share this photo from last week. How is it possible that Ridge is already 4 months!?! 24.10lbs, 17” tall & 17” long She’s sweet & spicy. Teeth kisses are her favorite. Her ball drive clicked the last couple weeks and she’s ALL about it. She enjoys prancing it around and showing it off before spitting it out for round two. She also loves the flirt pole and if she can tug on ANYTHING, yes please. She is extremely social and has yet to meet a human stranger. Neutral towards dogs.
