My girls have been killing it the past few weeks 😍 I try to train every day (not this past week with other life stuff) but I always tell my clients, consistency is more important than frequency. Doing a session for 5 mins every day will help you make significantly more progress than 2 hours, sporadically. Keena's been doing well pushing her threshold with passing dogs at sidewalk distance so I've been leaning into practicing dual walks and downs more, but only after they've been exercised and are slightly tired. I have too much energy between the two of them to expect full calmness in an urban setting (I see you, multi dog owners). How I approach walks ☑️ Exercise - run / fetch / flirt pole ☑️ Warmup - drill loose leash walk for a few minutes with slips and e-collars on. ☑️ Take a short walk. Egoom doesn't know I recorded his Zoom meeting with his cousin Koda. It was casual. They talked about different things to pee on, and why bike and scooter tires are a favorite. They traded slurs that they yell at people they see on their walks that move too slow or wear hoodies. But the best was hearing what they each did while their family was gone. Very interesting stuff. Apparently, Koda has a hidden poo stack under his parent's bed that he tells his cat siblings are treats, and Egoom and Fluff play some game called "Go to the Beach" in the toilet with my vintage action figures. I've always felt like somewhat of a super late bloomer. Like, always been two years behind in development or trends or pretty much anything else my friends or my family has been doing. Like while my friends were talking about boys and going on dates in highschool I was still drawing animals and playing with plastic horses. Or when all my friends (and my family) graduated they all immediately moved on with their lives doing college or going on religious missions, and I didn't start classes until nearly two years out of highschool. Or even in other avenues like dog sports. I knew about them and wanted to participate in them from a young age but I was never a junior handler. Right now it feels like everyone I used to be so close with is graduating and getting married and I'm not even half way through my courses or "officially" out of my home town. . It's taken a very, very long time to come to terms with my slow ass. But I'm okay with it now. I just have different goals from everyone else and I just needed time to realize that traditional societal roles don't fit me the way I expected them to. I just need more time to heal physically and mentally develop into someone who could handle the outside world like everyone else my age can. . When people ask me what my plans are or what I'm doing, I hated responding because nothing is ever set in stone for me. I can make plans and I can pour my all into them but sometimes it just isn't enough to make them happen. I've been called a liar before, solely because something I told someone I was doing simply didn't happen. The last thing I ever want someone to consider me is unreliable. So I learned to hide the truth. Not lie, but not be honest. It was just too embarrassing to go back on what I said every single time I was asked, and I always always thought it was because I just wasn't strong enough to make plans a reality. . I'm getting better at accepting what I can't control, and I'm much more comfortable being honest about the unstable nature of my life, despite the negative feedback. I want to be reliable for people, and sometimes that includes being honest about when I can't be. . Insta captions be short af--->
Had an orientation and assessment this evening with a new dog in our East Wenatchee Dog Pack named Chuleta. She is a very pretty girl with some reactive / anxious tendencies. Bella and Chuleta walked together 30 feet apart on-leash for 20 minutes or so. Most of the time we walked casually with no aggression. However when the girls locked eyes some of that fear aggression would come out. After I put Bella in the car, I was able to observe and interact positively with Chuleta. Although she doesn’t like eye contact (like most dogs), she did warm up quickly and was very gentle taking a treat from my hand. She knows her commands and was very playful. The agreed plan with Chuleta’s owner is to come at a quiet time in the evening and keep a distance… letting Chuleta continue to sniff and become acclimated to the ball field. Off-leash when no one is around and then on-leash if a dog arrives. We will continue walking with the dogs on-leash at Chuleta’s comfort level / pace until she is ready to engage safely off-leash.
