The rest is history! 📚 I live in a kennel currently so I’ve had lots of exposure to other pups and do very well around them. I’m a happy-go-lucky pup who is well-balanced and very sociable with both hoomans and doggos alike. 🎉 I’m working on all my skills like walking on a leash, going potty where I’m told and being in a crate and I’m super duper smart! If you are following a bunch of free instructions and resources online and getting no where, this could be why. How-to tutorials are great for showing what could be possible. But they do not account for how much time it actually takes to improve your grooming experience. There's an unrealistic expectation that comes along with them that can leave guardians feeling like their dog is a lost cause. They show a step by step process, not taking into account that one of those steps could take some dogs and guardians weeks or months before they are ready to move on. One thing is for sure, rushing the training process will cause you to get stuck and have to go back to when it was successful. ... which is probably what was happening but you didn't even know it. You were rushing without having an understanding of the pace your dog actually needs. 🩵Mike🩵 ⭐️ 10.5 Months Old⭐️ Mike is a sweet, playful boy that can be a little shy with new people and dogs. Once he warms up to you though, he will follow you around and sneak in some kisses and snuggles whenever he can. He loves car rides, sun bathing, balls, and a good chewy toy. Mike is very agile and has incredible jumping abilities but his energy levels are pretty moderate. He enjoys his naps and makes an incredible WFH buddy. He is slowly getting more confident on the leash, as he seems to get a bit anxious with the outdoor dogs barking in our neighborhood. Mike knows sit, stay, paw (shake) and sleeps in his crate at night. He has shown some signs of resource guarding towards our resident dog so he is fed in a separate room and we occasionally hand feed his as a training exercise. He has not resource guarded his food or toys with humans, it appears to be only with dogs. This sweet boy would make a great addition to a family or a person that works from home that will give him all the pets and snuggles that he wants! We have now had Pearl 12 weeks, and her anxiety is not getting any better. She still hasn’t warmed to the men in the household, I’ve tried everything I can think of. It’s clear to see whatever happened in her past has affected her so much. We can’t leave the house together, someone has to be at home or she comes with us but that’s not always possible. Crates are definitely out she can’t be confined to a space. He’s a friendly and energetic 6.5-year-old Plott Hound mix who was surrendered to the shelter when the only family he’s ever known could no longer afford the medicine and food for his skin allergies. 🫶Rusty LOVES people and lived with children in his previous home. He’s quite the talker with lots to say, but he’s getting better about staying quiet while he’s in his kennel. As part of our“Senior Sunday" series, we want to share stories about special NWBR pups who are adored as seniors. Some of our stories will include pups that have since crossed the rainbow bridge but will always be remembered. Each story is told by their family who loves them dearly. This week's NWBR senior story comes from Lanna, who shares her story of Hoss. Although Hoss himself wasn't an alum of NWBR, his impact resonates deeply as he brought his family to NWBR rescue—a gesture emblematic of the loyalty and love that many boxers and their families embody towards the cause. Hoss was already 7 and considered a senior by the shelter in Montana he was left at. Lanna and her partner John had been watching this particular rescue and knew immediately that Hoss was for them. Their adoption counselor worried that Hoss would be nervous, but he hopped right into the car, made himself at home, and spent the rest of the drive with his head on the center console between Lanna and John. He fit perfectly, literally and metaphorically, as all Boxers do! Though he was a senior already, he was an adventuresome pup, constantly hiking, rafting, and boating. He attended work regularly and was considered a therapy dog at Lanna's office. Hoss stayed with us for 7 more years, and passed peacefully in his dad's arms one evening, gracefully and on his own terms. Misha has crossed the rainbow bridge this week. 🩵🌈🐾 Misha came into rescue as a senior due to his mom losing housing in Bozeman, MT 2 years ago. He lucked out and hit the back of with a senior couple that lives in Canada. He was 13 when he came into the rescue and loved his walks and fetch! He made his humans take him on 3 walks a day.
