You are never prepared for this. The first aurora. We had planned this Iceland trip back in 2017, when we were living in Bangalore. This was the December holidays when we went to Arunachal and @ankita_k_banerjee called and said “Iceland jabi?” One thing led to other and they bought a car so that we can practice driving for the Icelandic roads! That plan, let’s just say, did not pan out very well and we ended up exploring some 8 other countries in the meantime! Iceland happened because of the US. This country kind of forced us to learn to drive. Once you know how to drive (and we waited for the Patagonia trip to happen before booking Iceland flights because TDP was kind of the litmus test 🫣), there was no looking back!!! It won’t be wrong if I say we visited Iceland only for the Aurora. Countless nights we had spent discussing in our Bangalore homes how and when we will phase them, the camper van, the sandwiches, the camera setting etc. Gojo was not even born at that time! But I guess it was meant to happen with him! And there it appeared! Out of nowhere, when none of us were really expecting it. #we were just chilling in the Hottub (you will see me shivering in a bathrobe because that’s exactly what I was doing! I was in the hot tub after a long day of driving from Akureyri to Laugarbakki)! At first it felt like a flashlight from the north. Then the dance started. I could not capture it the way experts do nonetheless I saw it in its prime! KPI 3. The backyard of hotel Laugarbakki. It felt like someone is spray painting green and turquoise lights from the North Pole. The spray danced a little as the ribbon of lights unfurled. It panned across the sky. #surreal. That’s the word. My hands and cheeks froze in the cold but I stood at the gate patiently waiting, like everyone else. The wait was worth it. # #i will forever cherish this memory. BEHOLD! NORÐANPAUNK 2023 PRESENTS! Virgin Orchestra - @virginorchestra virgin orchestra is an experimental post-punk band based in Reykjavík. They first met as students in the music department of the Icelandic University of the Arts, and although their individual styles are very different, they share the same vision. Their musical style combines post-punk with electronic, dreampop, and noise. They draw on a range of disparate influences, from The Cure, My Bloody Valentine and The Velvet Undergound to Dmitri Shostakovich and Delia Derbyshire. The coming together of these diverse musical backgrounds lends a unique sound, which is mirrored in their band – the combination of the live instruments of guitar, cello, bass and vocals; along with programming and other experimental soundscapes. So far, they have released one single (“on your knees/give in”) which was met with positive reviews both from within Iceland and abroad. Ghostigital - @ghostigital While Björk began her quest for avant pop stardom soon after the Sugarcubes split up, her trumpet-playing, shouting, and always-eccentric Cube mate Einar Örn Benediktsson (often just Einar Örn) took a decade off before returning in 2004 with his solo debut, Ghostigital, on the Honest Jons label. Recorded with Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Curver, the duo would later adopt the album's title as the name for any future projects. In 2005, Ghostigital the project would sign to fellow maverick Mike Patton's label Ipecac and recruit labelmates Mugison and Dälek along with Fall leader Mark E. Smith, the Jungle Brothers' Sensational, and avant-gardist Steve Beresford for collaborations. In the following years they continued to emerge and establish themselves as a solid part of the Reykjavik grassroots scene. In 2015, the song Kalt was released and attracted a lot of attention abroad. Subsequently, the band began performing with various well-known bands abroad. Over the past five years Kælan Mikla have travelled continuously and have released three LPs. Robert Smith, the front-man of the immortal band The Cure is a big fan and has booked Kælan Mikla to play at the various festivals he has curated, alongside iconic bands such as Pixies, Slowdive, Deftones, as well as having them solely open for the rock band Placebo. Following the release of their third LP, Nótt eftir nótt, they have gained a large audience amongst fans of dark and dreary music, but what really makes Kælan Mikla stand out is the strong audiovisual adventure through their magical world that is constantly evolving and always leaves the crowd with a memorable concert experience. The band's fourth album, Undir Köldum Norðurljósum, was released in 2021 to international acclaim and featured a guest appearance by French blackgaze band Alcest. We traveled more than 600km, from #Laugarbakki, around #Snaefellsness #Peninsula, and finally to #Keflavik. 🚗👫🏻 First stop was at #Arnarstapi, a #village on the southern side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, known for its #old and #charming #houses. We then traveled to #Hellnar village, and the #Londrangar View Point where we saw #unique #basalt #dikes that were remains of #ancient #crater. Our last scenic stop was at #Kirkjufellsfoss #waterfall. This mystical waterfall is made more special with the backdrop of #Kirkjufell, the #mountain which inspired Jules Vernes’ epic Journey to the Centre of the Earth. 🏞️⛰️ We managed to taste the mango coconut cake and chocolate mousse cake from the #Sandholt #bakery shop in #Reykjavík city before heading to our hotel in #Keflavik. 😋🍰 #Iceland #Day8 #让爱曾温 #loveWOONCHANge
