"Run for cover now, King Scratch take over, so please step aside, because I ain't gonna sympathise.. " After Prince Buster left Jamaica for a tour of the UK in 1967, Lee Perry was once again on his own. Without any producer to help with his creative ideas, he turned to Clifford Rea, owner of WIRL studios and came to an agreement to use the studio for his projects in exchange for WIRL taking (almost) all the profit, helping out with other sessions and record distribution on his little Honda motor bike. Even though this was a short period of time in Perry's career, it helped getting in contact with WIRL's recording engineer Lyndford (Andy Capp) Anderson and producers like Joe Gibbs, Bunny Lee and Clancy Eccles, and soon he found employment as Eccles' A&R man (which stands for ”artist and repertoire”). "Run For Cover" is another critical track aimed at his former employer Coxsone Dodd, warning him that Perry's musical outputs will eventually take over and it's time to step aside. The Sensations are singing background vocals (so I guess that's Cornel Campbell and Jimmy Riley?) with Lynn Taitt plucking his Hofner strings. The same rhythm track was later used by Perry for "Set Them Free" and "Don't Blame The Children" under the moniker The Defenders. #leeperry #kingscratch #princebuster #leescratchperry #cliffordrea #wirl #hondahondahonda #lynfordanderson #andycapp #joegibbs #clancyeccles #bunnylee #coxsonedodd #cornelcampbell #jimmyriley #lynntaitt #thedefenders #hofner #rocksteady

BLESSED EARTHLIGHT #LinfordAnderson ❗7/08/2022 ✨🙏🕊️ #LynfordAnderson Linford Anderson aka Andy Capp (July 8, 1941 - March 16, 2020) is a Jamaican studio engineer, producer, & vocalist, best known for his 1968 hit "Pop a Top".  Anderson was born in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica on July 8, 1941, & gained his early studio experience working for the RJR radio station, after initially being employed there as a log keeper, having studied accountancy. From there he moved on to Ronnie Nasrullah's recently created WIRL studio, where he gained experience with a two-track mixer, under the guidance of Australian engineer Graeme Goodall. His engineering skills were used extensively by producer Leslie Kong, and he eventually moved into production himself, using an Ampex two-track mixing board to create remixes of tracks and to combine several tracks into a single song. He also founded the Upset record label in 1967 along with Lee "Scratch" Perry and trainee engineer Barrington Lambert. His self-productions included "Pop a Top", which he described as the first ever Jamaican "talking" record. Anderson has been described as one of the most gifted recording engineers ever to work in Jamaica & was described by Winston Holness as "the greatest engineer at those times...a genius in the business". He worked for several years for Byron Lee at his Dynamic Sounds studio, working on recordings including the backing track to Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly with His Song", & on recordings by The Wailers. He stated in the 1990s that during that period he would record or master up to 100 songs a day. He also recorded for Lee himself, including the 1970 single "The Law". In 1970, Anderson mixed the first truly multitrack dubs at Dynamic Sounds. "Popatop" by Andy Capp (Lynford Anderson), reputedly the first ever Reggae record played on British national radio (by John Peel). In 1981 Peel compiled a list of his top ten singles for Smash Hits magazine and put this at number 6....just a few places behind "Teenage Kicks" by the Undertones...praise indeed. Today is another sad day because a great jamaican sound engineer, producer & vocalist in the 60's & 70's like Lynford Anderson, better known in the music industry as Andy Capp passed away. He worked on various recording sessions for a variety of ska & rocksteady artists in Jamaica and he team up with great producers like Derrick Morgan and Clancy Eccles. Important hit was the production for King Stitt "Herbsman Shuffle" and in 1969 he recorded the big hit "Pop A Top" recut a Dave Bartholomew's "South Parkway Mambo". For Bunny Lee he recorded another single called "The Law" where the great U Roy version big style. Bobby Ellis - Up Park Camp b/w Verse 4 7" single 1974 Jaguar label / Trumpet player Leslie 'Bobby Ellis' Wint was born 1932 in Kingston & later received his education at the famed Alpha School for boys where he was trained in music. After a successful period playing in live bands, Ellis began recording in 1964 as a member of The Mighty Vikings who were also primarily known as a stage band. Ellis remained active for the rest of the decade playing with various groups including Lyn Taitt & The Jets at Federal Studios, The Soul Brothers at Studio One, & for Derrick Harriott's group The Crystalites. In the 1970's Ellis remained a highly prolific session musician in bands like The Agrovators, The Revolutionaries, & The Black Disciples with whom Ellis would play & arrange some of the iconic horns on Burning Spear's legendary Marcus Garvey album. During his career of playing on literally thousands of recordings for others, Ellis only had the occasional 7" single & a mere handful of albums where he is credited as the primary artist. This track takes its title from the Jamaican Defense Force (JDF) military installation in Kingston known as "Up Park Camp", the tune is a lively Roots Reggae instrumental where Ellis' bright trumpet lines are reminiscent of the military bugle. The track was recorded at Dynamic Studio with important engineer Lynford 'Andy Capp' Anderson who also receives credit as co-composer. The b-side "Verse 4" has a subtle & understated but incredibly effective dub remix using delicate fader work to augment constant throbbing bass, likely done by Anderson. #AllVinylReggaeCollections #BobbyEllis @alphaboysradio #AlphaSchool #LynfordAnderson #DynamicStudio #JaguarRecords #ReggaeHistory #InstrumentalReggae #SevenInch #instavinyl #vinyligclub #ReggaeVinyl #45rpm #7inch #LabelArt #ReggaeRecords #ReggaeCollection #VintageVinyl #VintageReggae #VinylCollection #Wax #Vinyl
