Jimmy Hotz “Beyond The Crystal Sea” Was released in 1980 on the Visions Record label. Jimmy Hotz is one of those forgotten musicians from the early ‘80’s progressive rock scene. He release this single album which is full of interesting arrangements and is considered one of the best examples of early “Art Rock” by many collectors and critics.
🌿 Well, it's Spring time, so of course I've been listening to the grandpappy of plant-related-synth music on repeat lately. Sometimes I might say "what else needs to be said?" about classic albums like this, but honestly.. what else can I really add to the warranted heaps of praise and cult-like status that has been bestowed upon this one? Mort Garson created something uniquely magical with "Plantasia." The sheer amount of imagination and creativity that went in to this, from art direction to track titles, was pretty masterfully handled in and of itself. Couple all that with the wild factoid that this was initially meant to only be sold at the Mother Earth plant store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles (hence the full title, "Mother Earth's Plantasia") or come as a free offer after ordering a Simmons Mattress from Sears (the '70s were wild, huh?), and it all adds even more to this project's mystery and allure. The music itself is almost otherworldly, but still steeped in inspiration from the Earth and its bountiful beauty. Every track has its very own special sort of vibe to it, whether it be calming ("A Mellow Mood for Maidenhair"), a bit eccentric ("Baby's Tears Blue"), energetic and dancy ("Swingin' Spathiphyllums"), or blissfully melodious ("Symphony for a Spider Plant"). Although many artists have been duly inspired by it over the years, "Plantasia" remains a one-of-a-kind sort of experience that is always worthy of taking a trip through. 🌿

That said, 'Suicide in Progress' is one of the better songs from the Nude in Boots LP and the whole Big Business era in general. There isn't any information provided regarding the recording date, but this came out in the same year as the Sugar Daddy live album, so I wonder if it's taken from the same show? Chappell Roan - The Rise & Fall of a Midwest Princess It’s so strange that she blew up out of nowhere, a couple years ago Naked in Manhattan shows up on my release Radar on Spotify, and I thought it was a little cringe but had something that just kept me coming back. So every time she released a single I’d immediately check it out. I wanted the Coke bottle clear pressing of this but thought it was something I’d be able to wait on it but it sold out almost instantly, stoked I was able to get the pink variant though. I’m glad Chappell is blowing up though and I can’t wait to see what she does next. My favorite tracks are: Naked in Manhattan, My Kink is Karma, Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl, and After Midnight.

I met a very nice older couple selling records at the Raleigh Record show this morning. They were selling exclusively jazz, which is extremely unusual at this show. It turns out that the records were her father’s, largely purchased new in the 1950s to 1970s. He lived until 102. This copy of Warne Marsh’s self-titled release on Atlantic must have been ignored. There are hardly any signs of use.
