I saw this example of a #penfold #pillarbox in the @galwaycitymuseum yesterday. It is a hexagonal pillarbox decorated with an #acanthusleaf on the lid. It was first produced in 1866. This one used to stand at the corner of #highstreet and #MainguardStreet before a van crashed into it. It was removed to be repaired. Looking at the #royalcypher, it is a #VR post box – installed during the reign of Queen Victoria (postbox installed between 1866 and 1901).
