Yesterday, I was going through all my #kimono pieces (I can likely blame watching #shogun for the idea), and I thought it would be fun to #learn some more and #teach my daughter about it. I shared an image of my kimono all folded and stored in its traditional #tatoushi envelope. You don’t hang them up long-term, but they should be aired out for at least a few hours before being appropriately folded and wrapped in tatoushi/washi paper— or acid-free paper can also be used. Then you put the envelope somewhere dark/cool/dry. Today, I thought some more about actually #dressing in kimono, or #kitsuke . Rumours say it takes so many attendants to help you get dressed, but these are actually false— help would be nice (I won’t argue that my #everdaylife is #understaffed ), but you can dress yourself as long as you stay organized or resign yourself to starting over here and there. To me, the first step is always my feet. Getting all-the-way dressed and then trying to put on socks is honestly #forthebirds unless you’ve got a helper. So the first items on me are my #tabisocks which I got from @ohiokimono . I’ll also take this time to put #zori somewhere accessible where I can just slide them on without bending over at the end. Treatin' my bird friends with only the best from @wildbirdsunlimited Tips for bird feeding: 1) Use high quality seed blends without filler like flax or red and golden millet. Birds tend to avoid these and the waste can leave a mess that can grow harmful bacteria and attract unwanted guests 🐭🐭 2) Keep your feeders clean. 🧼🧽 I know we're all busy, but to prevent the birds from getting sick, try clean your feeders fairly regularly using a 1:10 ratio bleach concentrate. 3) Use a variety of bird feeder styles to attract different birds. For example a suet feeder with a tail pro is great for woodpeckers and a tube feeder for black oil sunflower is great for finches and chickadee. Juncos love the tray styles and hummingbirds need a nectar feeder! Mixing it up will increase your species diversity at your feeders! ** This post is NOT sponsored. I added another new bird species to my life list yesterday...a Caspian Tern! It was really unexpected and I thought it was a gull at first. Ever wonder what your purpose is or how you can help create change? Well a good starting point is to recognize something that makes you truly upset (can be completely out of your control) - now use the fire in your belly and passion to do something. Even small to you. Something that you have control of and can do. For instance, when I see developors clearning land it absolutely hits my gut and my heart. And I feel deep sadness for all the animals that just now lost their home and are feeling displaced. Our animals do so much for our world and humans can be horrible sometimes. So, I went out and bought 8 green giant arborvitaes. And I planted them in my backyard. Sure they’re little now, but they will grow into might trees. And provide shade, shelter and homes for the wildlife around my house. This aligned action really was fulfilling at its core for me. And allowed me to use some of that passion for good and recognizing I can do my small part.
