#aydakiadam || #francisgodwin Size, belki de “tarihin ilk bilim kurgu kitabı” olarak kayıtlara geçecek olan ve Türkçe ‘de ilk defa yayımlanan şahane bir öneri ile geldim. Kitabı yakın zaman önce tamamen tesadüf eseri keşfetmiş ve orijinal baskısının peşine düşmüşken @fihr_ist ile rastlaşmam bana karmanın muhteşemliği bir kez daha hatırlattı. Francis Godwin tıpkı babası Thomas Godwin gibi bir piskopos ve tarihçiymiş ama yazdığı öyküye bakarak aynı zamanda çağdaş bir yazarmış da diyebiliriz. Kitabı yazdığı dönemde kiliselerin toplum üzerindeki etkisini düşünecek olursak dönemin bilimsel gelişmelerini öykü içerisinde tartışacak kadar da cesur… Bu kitap yazıldığı sırada Galileo ve Kepler hâlâ hayattalarmış, Newton ise henüz doğmamış bile. Eserin yazıldığı döneme bakacak olursak, dünya merkezli evren teoreminin daha tam olarak reddedilmediğini görürüz. Öngörüsü ile dudak uçuklatan bu metin, dönem insanlarının hayaller- hayatlar dilemmasına da ışık tutuyor. Der Chevalier mit dem großen Riechkolben dichtete jedoch keine romantischen Stellvertreterverse, sondern war ehrlicher Autor zweier Romane über Reisen zu Mond und Sonne. Die Supernase gilt darum manchem sogar als Begründer der Science-Fiction (aber nicht der NASA). In seiner Satire „Histoire comique des États et empires de la Lune“ (Komische Geschichte der Staaten und Reiche des Mondes; #1657) bewerkstelligte de Bergerac die #Mondfahrt mit in Flaschen abgefüllten Tautropfen. Cyrano hatte nämlich beobachtet, dass die Sonnenstrahlen den Morgentau aufsaugen und in die Luft aufsteigen lassen (Morgentauplan). Auf dem Mond angekommen, landet er im Paradies und erfährt sogleich, dass man die Frucht vom Baum der Erkenntnis vor dem Verzehr unbedingt schälen müsse, denn „die Frucht ist von einer Schale bedeckt, die Unwissenheit in jedem erzeugt, der davon genossen hat. Francis Godwin, der Sohn eines anglikanischen Bischofs, war selbst Bischof, schrieb aber nebenher die kuriose Robinsonade "The Man in the Moone" (1629), deutsch: "Der fliegende Wandersmann nach dem Monde". Ein Spanier namens Domingo Gonsales wird auf einer Insel ausgesetzt, wo er wilde Schwäne dazu abrichtet, zuerst seine Inselpost, dann kleine Päckchen, danach ein Lamm und schließlich ihn selbst durch die Luft zu befördern. Doch Schwäne sind bekanntlich Zugvögel und fliegen im Herbst - wie bekanntlich alle Zugvögel - in ihr Winterquartier auf dem Mond. Nach einer zwölftägigen Reise, es ist Dienstag, der 11. September 1599, landet der Flieger auf dem Erdtrabanten. Die Bäume sind hier dreimal so hoch und die Mondmenschen doppelt so groß. We’ve got the aerial rig up in The Secret Garden, #Leominster - you can learn to #fly in a safe and friendly #free #workshop, suitable for #allabilities. The aerial rig is a 6m high dome-frame that we use with ropes attached. Using climbing harnesses and fabric, we explore new ways of #moving and a different relationship with #gravity. You can get your feet off the ground, turn, tip, swing and turn upside down if you wish. One of the features of 'The Man in the Moone' story are the Lunas - the people who live on the moon. Domingo Gonsales (and his moustache) encounter them when he flies to the moon. We've got a callout for local people who'd like to get involved in a new performance, ‘Our Man in the Moone’, with roles in aerial dance, movement, stilt walking, as a narrator and backstage support. ⠀ .⠀ No prior experience is necessary, as a series of summer workshops will teach people fun new skills for the production. The performance of ‘Our Man in the Moone’ takes place at Whitbourne Village Hall’s playing field on 31st August 2019 at 4:15pm. Tilly Lee-Kronick will also be joining us for Our Man in the Moone this summer. Tilly is a Bristol based singing, dancing, aerialist and physical theatre performer. Her love for aerial began at an international festival where she first discovered she could dance in the air! The second aerialist we’re going to work with on Our Man In the Moone is Jess Abouzeid, who’ll be leading some of our summer workshops on the aerial rig. Jess says she quickly realised that her love of performing and being upside down was a perfect match for circus. Her career goal is to be ‘professionally awesome’ and we think she is already! Jess specialises in aerial acrobatics across multiple apparatus such as silks and hoop. She also likes to sew costumes, play with fire, and 'pretend to be a gymnast'. We're excited to be working with aerial artist Coral Dawson again, for Our Man in the Moone. The project will involve teaching people aerial skills over the summer, ready for a performance at the end of August.⠀ .⠀ Coral is a freelance circus artist and physical performer who specialises in corde lisse and aerial harness. She has a BA in contemporary circus and physical theatre from Circomedia and also trained as an actor at The Drama Centre London. What an excellent time we had yesterday at Regency High School in Worcester. Regency is a school for students between 11-19 years with a range of additional needs including moderate, severe and profound learning disabilities, physical and medical needs, and sensory impairment. International storyteller Ben Haggerty had us all spellbound with his version of The Man in the Moone and we had some excellent questions and comments from the children. The staff made us very welcome too. The Man in the Moone was the first - and most extraordinary - work of science fiction in English, written by Francis Godwin, Bishop of Hereford, resident and estate owner of Whitbourne village where EVERYBODY DANCE is based. It was published in 1638 under a pseudonym and after Francis Godwin's death (the subject matter and handling of religion was quite controversial at the time and would not have been welcomed by the Church).⠀ .⠀ The book was largely forgotten until its recent rediscovery and is not widely known – the story pre-dates the science fiction of Jules Verne by over 200 years and it was created here in Herefordshire! EVERYBODY DANCE is very excited to be creating a new live performance this year, incorporating aerial dance, storytelling and music.
