Thanks to #NationalLottery players for making our project possible. Weโre making a huge difference to the lives of children in our local community thanks to #NationalLotteryย funding. The project we proposed to them was to help Way Up High secure a storage unit so we can accommodate larger items. This is a hard project for me to pass on as Iโve had such a great time setting up and running it over the past almost-three years, but we need to find someone else to run it who absolutely loves sharing good food with great people. This will free up capacity for an additional project that Iโve just started: Cook Your Tea club. Do you have experience running community projects, preferably food based? Are you a great โfrom scratchโ cook with a keen interest in local, sustainable food and reducing food waste? Are you an enthusiastic and friendly person who would be keen to get to know the wonderful group of people who make this such an enjoyable weekly event? This part-time job is a two-year self-employed position starting at the end of May, based in central Dunbar. Huge funding update!! We could not be more grateful that our community food projects have received two years' funding from @tnlcommunityfund The National Lottery Community Fund, and from the Scottish Government's Investing in Communities Fund. This funding means we can continue with our community food outreach work - Sunny's Kitchen, Sunny Soups and Cook Club - AND introduce a fourth project, Cook Your Tea, which started last week! It also funds time for the communications for the Crunchy, so we can keep bringing you all the news from the shop and these projects. We can't tell you how pleased we are to have secured these grants, and we owe a massive additional thank you to The Ridge , who coordinated the IiCF application and are continuing to support it throughout the term of the projects involved. Between 2017 and 2023, over 5,000 young people were participating in #KickTheDust projects at any one time. Our pilot programme to make heritage relevant to people aged 11-25 supported 12 ambitious projects with ยฃ10million, and today we're sharing impact of the programme. Projects included @LondonWildlifeTrust, @IgniteYorks, @_wedontsettle, @nerve_centre and @EnglishHeritage. Research and interviews with Kick the Dust projects found that the programme: ๐นGave projects security through large-scale, long-term funding. This allowed time and money to trial approaches to youth engagement, resulting in high quality and innovative heritage content. ๐นIncreased the diversity of participants The young people involved changed perceptions of heritage, which attracted a diverse group of audiences. ๐นEmpowered young people Young participants increased their understanding and insight into heritage, developed skills and some joined the heritage workforce or took up leadership roles. ๐นAchieved positive outcomes for young people by engaging them with heritage Young people found like-minded friends and connected to people with different backgrounds and experiences. ๐นExplored heritage creatively Young people identified unique aspects of heritage through creative activities which supported and expanded their understanding of the past and other people's lives. ๐นBenefitted heritage organisations Organisations developed their own expertise in working with young people and welcomed a more diverse group of people to their services. After collecting marine plastics on our beach cleaning missions the next job is to count and sort them for recycling. We record the amounts and different types of rubbish and share our data with the scientific community. We couldn't do all of this without the help of our wonderful volunteers who give their time and energy so generously. If anyone wants to come along and see the process and get stuck in helping we are running two sorting days this week on Thursday and Friday (25th & 26th April). Every day was a battle for Alison and her family, they had to spend hours trying to get help to care for and manage their Mum Joanโs excruciating pain. The chance to talk, and just to be with Joan, was taken away, and the lasting legacy of the final weeks watching their mum die has left the family haunted.
