We’ve got the aerial rig up in The Secret Garden, #Leominster - you can learn to #fly in a safe and friendly #free #workshop, suitable for #allabilities. The aerial rig is a 6m high dome-frame that we use with ropes attached. Using climbing harnesses and fabric, we explore new ways of #moving and a different relationship with #gravity. You can get your feet off the ground, turn, tip, swing and turn upside down if you wish. In the 1600s, village resident Francis Godwin, Bishop of Hereford wrote an adventure story that became the first work of science fiction in the English language, 'The Man in the Moone'. Rachel has been to talk to Hereford College of Arts students about making an animation based on the Our Man in the Moone project. Illustration & Animation Course Leader Neil Hadfield has created a Live Brief for the students to work on together. Discussions centred on Bishop Godwin's fantastical story and how it can be presented in a modern way, including the possibilities of making it gender neutral. Our stilt walkers did a great job in the ‘Our Man in the Moone’ performance a couple of weeks ago. The weather cheered up after a rainy morning and Jess certainly shone as the Luna King (in gold). Rosie and Rebecca were high up, battling a strong breeze that threatened their headgear - they were glad of the support of the ground level Lunas, who helped to keep them safe as they walked on stilts. Well done, everyone!

Our trip to the Herefordshire Archives was brilliant. One of the features of 'The Man in the Moone' story are the Lunas - the people who live on the moon. Domingo Gonsales (and his moustache) encounter them when he flies to the moon. Fantastic storyteller Ben Haggarty went into local schools last term to tell his version of Bishop Francis Godwin's sci-fi tale and here's a brilliant image drawn by one of the children. We've got a callout for local people who'd like to get involved in a new performance, ‘Our Man in the Moone’, with roles in aerial dance, movement, stilt walking, as a narrator and backstage support. ⠀ .⠀ No prior experience is necessary, as a series of summer workshops will teach people fun new skills for the production. The performance of ‘Our Man in the Moone’ takes place at Whitbourne Village Hall’s playing field on 31st August 2019 at 4:15pm.
