Update. Some of you are aware that I have been limping for a while now and it’s not just for attention or sympathy and doesn’t affect my driving or work abilities. I am now scheduled for a total knee replacement surgery in 3 weeks time which means I can compete in the Baskerville 1000 event next weekend and round 4 TCRC at Symmons Plains 18th, 19th May. I will then have a few days recovering post surgery but I will still be able to get products and do a few short treatments. It will good to no longer need a knee brace or a stick. This time in 1 week we will be at Bathurst and have completed practice and qualifying in preparation for 3 x 25 minute races on Saturday. The 12.30 and 4.30 races will be broadcast live on SBS, Kayo and Fox Sports. We then have a 30 minute race on Sunday at 10.40 to finish the event, (not broadcast ). Let’s have a chat about medical micro needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, CIT. These treatments when performed correctly can help to treat acne scarring, particularly reducing the depth of scars. Minimize fine lines and wrinkles, increase natural collagen formation, reduce pore size and improve skin textures. After a course of treatments your skin is visibly revitalized, rejuvenated and regenerated. Before you go rushing to book in and take advantage of a special offer somewhere make sure the equipment being used has certification and that your skin has been prepared by using products that contain ingredients that mimic the skin and you have a customized serum to help nourish the cells. You should already be home rolling. You wouldn’t undertake a 5km running without building up to it, so don’t expect your skin to react well if it’s not prepared. I always use LED with these treatments to help heal and stimulate collagen production. No Pong deodorant has been a favorite of mine for many years and you have many fragrances to choose from and the clay based ones are best if you have any reaction to bi carb soda. Grants toothpaste is another fantastic Australian product available at the supermarket. Just look on the lower shelves. Mother SPF 30 is ideal for all over body sunscreen, applied at least 20 minutes before sun exposure. These are products that all the family can use. It’s hard to believe but 3 weeks today I will be on my way to Bathurst to race in the Improved Production Category as a support for the Bathurst 6 hour race. We have practice on Friday 29th at 10.00 and qualifying at 14.45. Saturday 30th we are racing at 9.55, 12.30 and 16.30. On Sunday 31st we are out at 10.40 for our last race of 30 minutes. Saturday afternoons 4.30 race will be live free to air on SBS, Fox sports and Kayo and the 12.30 will be streamed live. As the only female in a grid of 55 I’m hoping I can make myself proud. Let’s talk sunscreens. SPF (Sun Protection Factor) ratings and which is best. All skin types are different and have varying results from sun exposure. Your skin type, location, time of the year, time of the day, how much sunscreen you apply, how much you sweat, how long you swim and if you wear protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses will all affect your level of protection. SPF 15 will block roughly 93% of UV rays when applied thoroughly, SPF 30 will give you 97%, SPF 50 blocks 98%. On average it takes between 5 to 30 minutes to begin getting burned. If you start getting sunburned after 5 minutes in the sun without sunscreen, applying a SPF 15 x 5 = 75 minutes and then you need to reapply. SPF 30 x 5 = 150 minutes then reapply. Most people get burned more on a cloudy day as you don’t feel the UVB = burn, damaged skin and can contribute to skin cancers. UVA = causes aging, spots and wrinkles and can penetrate glass. My favorite sunscreens I use, stock and recommend are Dermaviduals and Mother SPF. Round 2 TCRC at Symmons Plains completed with a fantastic weekend of Motorsport and a great time catching up with fellow competitors and supporters. I had an absolute blast despite a few issues with power steering belts and an alternator belt going for a ride outside the car and my crank sensor wiring getting cut but luckily I was able to cross the finish line and get the chequered flag before the car ran out of power and I got skulldragged back to the pits once again. Lucky for me Darryl was able to get it sorted and I didn’t miss any races which enabled me to get a 3rd place in the under 2 litre IPRA category. My next racing will be at Bathurst Easter weekend 30th and 31st March. Wish me luck for that as the only female on a full grid of 55 competitors. Sunscreen information. It’s your best antiaging product that should be used daily on any area of your skin that is exposed to UVA = Aging and UVB= Burning. SPF stands for sun protection factor and measures how long a sunscreen protects against these rays. This is based on how long it takes your skin to burn in the sun without protection. Say it takes 30 minutes, if you applied SPF 30 it would take 30 times longer—300 minutes. Apply it and wait at least 10 to 15 minutes before going in the water. Cloudy days are when most people get sunburnt as you don’t feel the UVB. SPF 15 blocks about 93% of UVB, SPF 30 blocks about 96.7% and SPF 50 about 98%. No sunscreen can completely block UV rays and these can also penetrate glass. Wear sunglasses, UPF 50 clothing and hats such as Solbari. I wear and stock Dermaviduals which is a chemical sunscreen and Mother SPF is a physical (mineral) sunscreen. Have regular skin checks, especially if you notice any change in a freckle or mole. Your make up alone does not give you enough protection, wear sunscreen under it. That will do for today. A reminder about IPL contraindications that may increase your risk of a burn or blisters. Please have a read, like or comment if you see this post. Some medications can make you light sensitive. These include some anti fungals, some anti histamines, some non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, cholesterol lowering medications and some antibiotics especially Tetracycline, Doxycycline that are often prescribed to treat acne and other skin conditions. Roacutane is prescribed to treat acne and can have an effect on your skin and make you light sensitive for up to 6 months. There are many others so please always let me know prior to treatment if you have any medication changes or are applying any creams to the area I am treating. No fake tans or sunscreen to be applied to a treatment area. No deodorant on underarms please as it can block the IPL light. Yes pregnant women can be treated but I will not perform Brazilian IPL during pregnancy, even though it is not contraindicated. Please keep treatment areas out of the sun and wear your sunscreen daily. It’s your best anti aging product. I will not be performing pigmentation treatments now until next winter.
