Almost a year to the day since I left Tasmania. I was looking back through photos from the time there and came across this one of Sid with his new Kelpie pup, 'Flint', taken on one of my first days on a farm in the NE. The second photo was the last (and maybe the only one) together, taken in the early hours in Sid's shed after my last working Friday on the farm - before calling it a night and navigating the rough forestry track back to my cabin. We had a bet that I couldn't wear shorts everyday through to May and Tasmania's mid winter. A bet I happily won and that night we drank the forfeit - two crates of Great Northern. Sid was one of the good ones. Rough as sandpaper and everything you'd expect from a bush-man, but an absolute gem. I think I was there only two days before I was invited for dinner and to meet the family (and eight dogs) - something that became a regular occurrence. We spent a lot of hours together mowing paddocks, raking hay, crutching sheep, rounding up livestock, fencing, processing firewood, fishing, talking shite on smoko, and tinnies at the Mathinna Country Club before raiding the beer fridge of a Friday night for shite tinnies of Great Northern.
