F A M I L Y Life is so so precious. And fleeting. As you grow older, your life becomes a collection of experiences and memories. Photos are the breadcrumbs we leave along the way to help us record our history. Our people. At every stage of our lives, and theirs. These breadcrumbs take us down the path of remembering. Who we were and who they were. And the journey is beautiful. And the more breadcrumbs, the better. This shoot was just so special to me. We had big plans with an entire exact schedule (hello wedding photography shoot list) of everything we wanted to shoot. And we sorta stuck to it…mostly hahaha. The girls were curious and happy and definitely were in charge of how long the shoot went, what outfits we liked and how many photos we would take haha. And they were all amazing. Because they are real and capture them exactly as they are. The outtakes and faces we got were just so incredibly precious. I could have photographed this beautiful family all day, every day. And…having Thalia and Hernán come in after their amazing maternity shoot when Thalia was pregnant with these adorable twins, Camila and Valentina, was just such a treat. They are the sweetest and most beautiful girls with the best disposition and with so much character! I may have squeezed some cheekies or two. There is nothing “mini” about my shoots ever (well the little humans are mini ha☺️). I want my clients to have the same luxury experience when they are in my studio and never feel like they are rushed, especially with little ones who need time to warm up. What a treat!!!! D A D D Y This sweet little lady has her daddy wrapped around her fingers….in a biiiig way….the connection between these too is something else. 🥰 He makes her feel safe and better and when she got a small boo-boo on her heel from wearing her pretty princess shoes with her “Spider-Man” dress, he made it all better. B O Y M O M PORTRAIT OF JILL PEBLEY @jill_pebley and her two little guys Bryson and Hunter. Jill was in the studio for her 40 Over 40 Shoot where she could connect with her self and enjoy the experience of being pampered and being the focus of attention. As a busy single boy mom and realtor, it is not often that she can slow down long enough to do so. The best part, is to have her little boys join us at the end of the day to capture some portraits of all of them together. When we get the little ones to slow down just a teeny tiny bit and capture an image where everyone is looking at the camera (and no face swapping🙌🏻), we are all thrilled. This image makes me so happy because the boys are just so in the moment and so present. I loved the energy of these two little guys who keep mom super busy all the time. And we did take a lot of fun images of the boys being boys and having fun with mom. And then, I captured this portrait. My heart is happy and so is Jill’s. She will always have these images to remember them at this age. They grow up so so fast. Life gets so busy, you blink, and they are in college. P R I C E L E S S One year. One very long year. My dear friend and former coworker Vanessa Suarez was one of the first women to visit my studio in 2020 to book her session. She was so so excited to have a session with her daughters. She spoke about how much she loved them and told me that the biggest gift she could think to give them was the priceless memories of these portraits. And I tell you she was SO excited! And then, you know…2020 happened and we had to postpone until it was safe to get together and for her daughters to travel to McAllen for the shoot. When we FINALLY had our shoot this past spring, it rained like cats and dogs and we had lightning and thunder outside and the studio was super dark, and yet, we were cozy and happy and the joy that was felt in the studio was palpable and it felt bright all day BECAUSE OF THEM. Vanessa was on cloud nine all day and her girls were the funniest and excited, taking selfies and behind the scenes photos, and laughing, and they were so so sooo into the shoot that it was an absolute pleasure for me to spend the day with them and to create these portraits. More than that, it was an amazing bonding session between the three of them. They have had an experience of just being together and celebrating each other and now have beautiful portraits to remember the day. And I have to mention the catered lunch Vanessa organized with the most amazing and succulent Puerto Rican delicacies! It was amazing! I am thrilled to have had this honor of photographing all three of you. S P A C E Why did I name this image Space? Well, photographically, I did because of the negative space I left next to Debralee @lifeofdebralee and her sweet boys Caleb and Aden. I love breaking rules in photography and I find that doing so gives you a new perspective and tells a different story in an image. Being a boy mom means giving yourself space to be spontaneous and fun, to get on the floor and play with them. To give them the space to be boys and to be loud and silly and jumpy and have dirty fingernails from looking for bugs in the dirt. It means giving them space to be exactly who they are supposed to be at their age and at that moment in time. Giving your boy-mom relationship space is just as important as being together. It teaches our kiddos independence and teaches them how to think on their own two feet while still knowing that mom will be there when they need her. It teaches boys that moms need some time to themselves too. As they grow we see them becoming more independent and they do so in such a healthy way, as long as we give them space to do so. For this image we were inspired by the black and white photos of the late Princess Diana and her boys when they were little. Something fun and playful and something that would look like a piece of art on the wall. Debralee’s boys are a hoot and each with their distinct personality. P R I N C E S S Momma’s pride and joy. She really is a little princess and having her join mom in the studio for a quick session at the end of mom’s photo shoot, and then having daddy come at the end for family photos, was the icing on top. Little Ali was just adorable and her favorite thing to do was to explore in the studio and do her own thing, listen to music and watch her favorite cartoons and twirl around in her pretty dress. She is at that age when toddlers are discovering all kinds of things and want to declare their independence from you as a parent. And that is a great thing! Every once in a while we got Ali to come back in front of the camera and were able to capture some fun moments, expressions and the way her little nose crinkles when she smiles. And that deep gaze of hers that gives you a glimpse of who she will be as an adult. My heart just melts with them. I find it’s important to let little kids be kids and to act like kids their age! That’s when you know you are doing the right thing! The best part is being able to capture their cute expressions and freeze time for a moment because they grow up so quickly and you will want to remember them at every stage in their life! I love being laid back during photoshoots, especially when these tiny little humans come into the studio. It is so much more fun to go with the flow and create a worry free and stress free experience for mom and dad. And moms and dads will still worry a bit, even though I tell them not to, hahaha. In the end, we end up with super cute images and memories that will last a lifetime. So never let that stop you from having a photo session with your little kids. Ali did an amazing job and she is just a darling little girl! And let’s talk about momma @carmenmedinasolis who looks stunning in all her photos from her session. F A M I L Y So much amazing cuteness in this image of the Gutierrez family! But, who stole the show? Little Master Lucas with his little jeans and his curly shiny hair, his cute cheeks and that grin and his POSE! D A D D Y Daddy’s little girl. A little girl and her daddy. There is such a special bond between these two! When daddy (known to the rest of us as the amazing Dr. Joel Solis of Valley Medical Arts Clinic- also my doctor) walked in at the end of Ali and mommy’s @carmenmedinasolis photoshoot, her eyes lit up and her precious smile filled the room. This little darling has the greatest little sassy and spunky personality and the cutest little facial expressions I’ve ever seen! She was a champ to sit (okay there was some dancing and jumping and rolling hahaha) for a photo session for as long as she did! She had her little supermodel for a day experience with mommy right before daddy showed up. (Wait til you see mommy!!!) . . I’m so glad I was able to capture this special photo of them both together. Time goes by so fast! Too fast! Exist in photos with your children, for your children, for you. . . F A M I L Y They will never regret making time each year for family photos. There is no greater joy than dragging your teenagers and husband to a photo session. Ha. . . It is always a good idea to have these photos done. When the holidays roll around it may already be too late to schedule a family session, and all the other months in the year mattered too, right? I know I am always the most busy and stressed out in November and December and the last thing I want to do is worry about a family photo, picking coordinating outfits or going to a place where there are 50,000 other photographers and families vying for that one cute spot. It’s really slim pickings in the RGV y’all for nice outdoor locations. When the holidays come around and I’m so busy with everything else, that is when I wish I would have scheduled family sessions earlier in the year. . . The year 2020 has put so much into perspective for us. Moving forward into 2021 we can make new traditions and do things differently because we have learned this year that everything can change overnight. This coming year I will be announcing opportunities for family shoots on the beach and in the McAllen area so make sure you stay tuned. I always always invite any client to have their family show up towards the end of their own shoot to get some family photos in the studio too. That way you already look amazing, and the fam only needs to show up for a small amount of time. Cause you know our guys will say “where, when, and how long is this gonna take? Will it interfere with football/hunting/fishing etc etc.?” Hahaha. So short and sweet is always a good idea! . . Trust me, you will be glad you did. Stay tuned. O P A My dad just celebrated his 84th Birthday yesterday. And we had ourselves a little portrait session in my dining room. I have been wanting to photograph my parents for the longest time. “What do I wear?” He said. I told him I wanted to capture him in what he was already wearing; one of his favorite soft and warm flannel shirts. . I love the stillness of a person as it is captured in a portrait. A portrait that draws you in and you scan it looking at all the details that make someone the person they are. . . My boys call him Opa, so we all call him Opa. I love him so!
