I’ve had the pedal to the metal this week, banging out 12,000 mugs. Ok, not really 12,000. But nearly. Ok not nearly 12,000. More like 60. 😬 It feels like 12,000 because mugs are so labor intensive. To make a mug that ticks all the boxes takes refinement and patience. I’ve made my fair share of heavy-weight mugs in the past, and sure, they are really cute. But put a cup of hot anything in it and you might need a gym workout before you take a sip. 🫤 . I love these mugs because of how they feel in your hand. I love how I can hold the handle and love how smooth and soft the glaze is against my lips. So my focus this time is weight. It was a rainy afternoon today so we didn’t get to go to the park. Instead, I decided to get some clay out, sit at the dining room table and make with the kids. As making ceramics is my job, I don’t often get the chance to sit down, relax and enjoy hand building. But when the kids are keen for a clay-play how can I say no!? . At first, Daisy said she made the mug for me for Mother’s Day and I was so happy. Nek minute she changed her mind and said it was for her nanny instead. Good thing I’ve got no feelings. Leo said I could have his. I knew I could count on him. . These kits are available online now. They come with enough clay to make a cute little bud vase or mug, tools and a sponge. They also come with some illustrated instructions. The clay used in my kits is to be fired in a kiln (as air dry clay won’t work for anything food or water related!). When you buy your kit, you’ll get instructions on where to find the nearest kiln near you. There are services all over Australia, that offer firing. These are such a fun activity to do with the family so why not get a couple of boxes or even the larger kit that comes with a video tutorial! Who knows maybe you’ll make your own Mother’s Day mug!?

Sharing an update on my pattern progress. I am squeeeeeezing in my classes with @bonniechristine whenever I possibly can, and then drawing and painting in the remaining cracks of life too. I am FULL of RAGING self doubt, but then show me a creative who isn't?
