Last weekend, we spent time away with our church staff/their spouses. It was the sweetest time 💛. Here are a few things that weekend stirred my heart to be grateful for: A pastor (aka- my husband ❤️) who values prayer so much that he set aside an hour each morning for it. It was a gift to pray over specific members & ministries of our church. Having that prayer/Bible time on the beach 🏝️ . Can every day start that way, please 😂? This group of staff + spouses that have such a heart for Jesus & his church. Also, how they disciple us. They give us wisdom on how to raise godly kids in both our conversations & how they live their lives. I’m so thankful for their example 💛. A church that encouraged this time. & in general, what God is doing at our church. It’s not flashy, but honestly, I don’t think it’s supposed to be. We’re aiming to grow in discipleship, love one another well, & proclaim the Gospel 🙌. Thank you, Jesus, for the ocean & time away. Thank you for your local church. Last year, I was at a dinner where current missionaries were asked to stand up for recognition. As those around me clapped, my insides burned with questions, shame, and self criticism. Not a single person was looking at me, but it felt as if all eyes were on me…a failure. “That used to be me,” I thought. Completely forgetting that trauma and mental health struggles don’t just go away by pretending, my mind was consumed by thoughts like “If I had just been ok and held it all together, we would have stayed there rather than moved here.” In the blink of an eye, I lost sight of how God rescued me, the ministry God has given me today, and how much more joyful I am as a result of His merciful movement in my life. The enemy delights in every opportunity to nurture envy in believers, along with lapses in memory of God’s faithful care throughout every season. For a moment, the praise of man felt like gain over resting in God’s plan for my life that has included pain. Pain, yes…but also so much growth and delight in seeing purpose birthed from that pain. Yes, I consider myself in ministry today, but it’s different than I planned and could not be further from what I wanted. But there’s joy. And so much of it. During that battle for my heart while missionaries were acknowledged for their faithful service, I looked down and noticed a DM come through on my phone. To my utter shock, it was a publisher messaging me, asking if I would be interested in discussing writing a second book. It was an invitation I had not sought out and one beyond my wildest dreams. And just like that, God proved faithful even as I slid into unfaithfulness. He redirected my gaze from the past to the present, and really on to the future. His timing was impeccable in soothing my sorrow by reminding me of the unique mission field He has uniquely equipped me for. There are days I grieve the loss of our former ministry, but God is so kind to continually take my face and point it forward in hope, reminding me of His perfect plan that is indeed full of beauty from ashes🤍 #ministrymama #ministry #ministrywife
Never experienced this before….. I was invited to minister this weekend at a women’s retreat. And came back being ministered too. At the end of the last sermon, they prayed for me. I received a prophetic word, and as they prayed for me I felt someone trying to go under my dress, and when I looked down it was a sister (an elder) on her knees praying and anointing my legs and feet. I’ve never had that in my life. (I’ve had to feet done quickly, but this sister took her time on my legs and Feet) I wept, it was so humbling and such a blessing. After the service I told her I was so touched, by her actions, and she said she felt God telling her to come pray over me and anoint me as I prepared to go to the places God would send me. • • • • Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:8

One thing I am trying to do better at is make more things from home, but not just “for fun.” I’m trying to do more from home to be more present with my family. ✨ This little treat doesn’t happen regularly amidst our busy life, but this morning I am thankful that I have the ability to stay home with my boys, teach them about Jesus, and still enjoy special “treats” from home. Staying home with a spouse in ministry means that we may not have much financially and have to cut back on extra things, but time over money is more of a gift than I could ask for. Date night by the water a few weeks ago. 🤍 I love that he’s picked up photography because now I get so many shots like these. Our 20 year anniversary is coming up in July. We’ll getaway somewhere on the Blue Ridge for a night or two. We used to be beach folks but now we’re mountain people; one of the many transformations we’ve experienced together. And that just might be the secret - enjoying the winding road and unexpected turns in the journey with the one who’s beside you. The gift is looking back and sharing a lifetime of memories- sometimes recalling the same moment at the same time, because you were there, together. All credit to where’s it is due- to Jesus our Rock and Foundation.

Cling to the Father . But how-how do we cling to a Heavenly Father that we can’t physically see or touch? In the same way my little JonMarc is hanging onto his Daddy in picture 3! My little boy did not want to get in the van, into his car seat, or buckle up. If he’d had his way, he would have stayed outside unsupervised while we drove away to church on Sunday. We had to break his heart, his will, and force that boy into his seat because the alternative wasn’t safe. He got over it and was fine because his Daddy was still with him only in the drivers seat & later in the sanctuary as he was in nursery. . Our Father isn’t physically sitting beside us or holding our hand, but we can cling to Him knowing that we will be with Him one day! We can cling to His Word (when we don’t feel like reading it-recall it!) We can cling to His people (when we don’t feel like being around them-retreat to them!) and we can cling to His Presence! (when you don’t feel like talking-pray…He knows yours thoughts!) He is always with you and sometimes takes you places that you don’t want to go. Places that just might break you-but for His glory! Go there-and cling. I’m a pastor’s wife 👋🏻! (It was so fun interacting with some of you with my “I’m a Pastor’s Wife..” reel earlier this week, so I thought we’d continue with a pastor’s wife style Friday intro…) My husband was called into full-time vocational ministry way before we met, so I knew I was getting into pastor wife life when I married him. He got his first job as a student pastor 3 weeks before we got married. We served there for 10.5 years. We still get to see many of these students following Jesus, & it’s the sweetest gift 🙌. Now, he’s a senior pastor. We’ve been at our current church almost 2 years. Student ministry was never a stepping stone to him being a “real” pastor. He was a real pastor in student ministry, too! The Lord simply shifted both of our desires in regards to ministry. So yes, we’ve only been at 2 churches. I never knew if I would feel the nudge again. When I laid Plexus down for the unseeable future last year, this time it felt more permanent. I felt there was no way I could ever step back in after going in and out of “busy” seasons of mom life and ministry. “What would they think? Would they even believe me? Would they be counting down the days until I quit again?” In 2020 is when I first started on my network marketing journey, right after Elias was born. I had stars in my eyes and was so excited to start on a new adventure. I gained some of my closest friends through Plexus, and started breaking through fears of public speaking and showing up on social media. It was a great stream of extra income and became our only income when we traveled in our RV across the U.S. What I didn’t plan for was the fear of man, the fear of rejection I was going to have to learn to break off. I didn’t know how to put on blinders from those things, so they would sway me. There have been times where I have let other peoples opinions sway what I felt the Lord asking me to do… those moments reminded me of Saul with Samuel. Saul feared peoples opinions and judgements of him more than he feared the Lord’s, and there was a big price to pay for that. Cont. in comments👇🏼

Today’s Ministry Wives episode started out as a conversation about discipling our kids but quickly turned into an episode about what it’s like to go from pastor’s wife to pastor’s widow, so my guest and I just went with it, and I’m thankful we did. We all need to listen to this episode, not just for the pastors’ wives we know who have lost their husband but for the widows (and widowers) in our churches who are learning to live without their beloved spouse. My guest for this episode is Melissa Swain. Melissa was married and in ministry alongside her husband Chris for several decades until his unexpected passing a few years ago. Melissa was thrust suddenly into widowhood and single motherhood, and as she shares in our conversation, she’s still learning how to adjust to her new life. In addition, she helps us know how we can encourage and support pastor’s widows and their families as they’re adjusting to their new lives. When Chris died, he had almost completed a passion project: a book about discipling our own kids in the home. Melissa finished the book and is continuing to carry out what she and Chris were doing in their home with their two kids. So, in this episode, you’ll also hear about practical ways they discipled and she is discipling her kids, all of which they wrote about in their book, Write It On Their Hearts. Some days you may be fascinated by the “influencers”, wondering what they did or what they had that opened the doors of access to increased followers or rubbing shoulders with the ministry or leadership celebrities. And other days, you may be jealous, thinking, “what does she have that I don’t?” And still others, you may be grateful for your own field of labor and harvest. Remember, today: you don’t have to have a host of followers to be influential. Serve where you’re stationed. You’re doing what she couldn’t, or wouldn’t, do. But you’re also doing your part in building the Kingdom of God. And nothing’s more important than that. Let’s reduce the comparison. Let’s break down the celebrity status mindset. Love Jesus first. Be content in Christ. Don’t look to a significant other/spouse to love you in the way only Jesus can 💜. Marry someone you actually like. Love is vital, but you’re gonna spend a lot of time with this person. Be sure you like them. Ben Rector even has a whole song about it 😂. Find something fun to enjoy together. Sometimes, I feel weird about my love for watching sports. Apparently some women just figured out football existed thanks to Taylor Swift 🤷🏼♀️, but I’m into it for the actual game… like, invested & yelling at the TV. It’s something my husband & I enjoy together, though. We don’t have everything in common (I like reading; him, not so much), but we do have this thing that’s fun & gives us a way to connect that’s not kid/work/life related. Don’t be afraid to serve your husband. Really, it’s not demeaning. If Jesus served us on the cross, we can make our husband his favorite meal 🥘 . Serve together in the local church. It’s one of my favorite things about marriage 🙌. Most days are ordinary, but remember that you’re living in the “someday” you once prayed about 🥰. Happy Valentines Day! Last week we got to see our sweet Hannah girl! 😍 She has been my most active baby in the womb so it was incredible to see what she is doing in there. The miracle of life will never be lost on me. I am not sure how anyone can experience this and not believe in Creator God. 🙌 We also got a c-section date of March 26th. Whether she waits or comes a little early, we know God has the perfect time planned! 🙏💕 He is definitely teaching us that His plans are so much greater than our own! He has challenged us to trust Him more and let go of control. In the Bible, Hannah was faithful to pray to God, lifting up her worries and desires to Him and leave fully surrendered to Him, without worry! I believe God is helping us establish this same character to be more like Jesus! 🙏🙌 Hannah, you may have surprised us, but you did not surprise God. He had you perfectly planned all along and I cannot believe He chose our family for you. What an honor it is to be your momma!! You were created for such a time as this baby girl and we cannot wait to meet you! You have already taught us so much!
