Struggling every night with homework. It was a fight, a struggle, lots of tears. It was no longer an option to pass up this Structured Literacy Program; otherwise known as The Orton Gillingham Approach! This approach to reading instruction is based on the Science of Reading. It is an explicit, systematic, 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢-𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 (𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫, 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠) and individualized method which optimizes learning and retention. Not based of memory only. I remember like it was yesterday. Speaking to the tutor @empower_literacy_academy AGAIN, giving her an update on where he was at.. behind in his grade level. The one thing I remember most that she said was in grade K-3 student are learning to read. In grades 4+ they are reading to learn. ⤴️ Something to note if your child too is struggling in reading or writing. Your child is not alone facing this struggle, According to the National Center for Education Statistics (2015), 31% of 4th graders nationally cannot read at a basic level and only 36% are reading at a proficient level. Now I’m no expert in dyslexia but im sharing this, because I want to build more awareness on dyslexia (AKA) Specific learning disorder, with impairment in reading. It’s not talked about. Your school won’t say ANYTHING about dyslexia.
