Mount Cabot for 32 of 48. This was my first non solo hike in 1 1/2 years and my first group hike. I was a bit out classed, the group I jumped in my stacked with trail, marathon and ultra runner but that didn't matter. No one cared that they had to drag me up and down Cabot. π The overcast day and rain one we hit the summit didn't do anything to dampen the fun vibes. This hike was a great time with great folks. Lexi, the wonder dog, finished her 484ks, and it was a pleasure to be included in such a great experience. Mount Cabot for #44 for my NH48! I may be smiling in this photo, but that doesnβt mean that Iβm happy with this hike! The only good part was the views of the Franconia mountains along the way! Overall this mountain sucked and for some good reasons too. Traveling there is a huge pain! The drive is over 3 hours long. Thereβs a gate thatβs only open 8am-4pm so you have to pretty much rush hike this mountain. Thereβs very limited parking. And finally thereβs no view on the summit! They say the trail is overgrown but since itβs spring thereβs no leaves on the bushes. There was a water crossing at the beginning so high I walked across on a log a bit of ways down. The cabin has a table and two places for sleeping bags so if youβre hiking Cabot in the dark your only option is to stay overnight because of the closed gate! This is one of my least photographic hikes! This Mountain is not worth my time! Back in August I tried hiking Mount Cabot and I came to a closed gate. I didnβt know that I was only two miles from the trail head and yet I was so angry for driving a long way for nothing. It can be long between Gorham and York Pond Trailhead! This means this is the only mountain on the NH48 list that I attempted to hike a second time. Every other mountain was a first attempt! The only fascinating thing about Mount Cabot is being the northern most 4,000 footer! Crossed number 14 off the list yesterdayβ¦ Mount Cabot (or cheese mountain π§ like we like to call it π) was 9.2 miles and took 6 hours to complete. This hike was pretty joyful overall with some flat areas, rock scrambles, ups and downs, and water for the pups to play in. The lookout had a pretty view which was much appreciated since the actual summit had none and was just a pile of some rocks. The most interesting part was that we had to rush down to the bottom (which had us stressed)β¦ The gate closed at 4pm and we cleared it at 3:55! Quite a close call! π #mountcabot #nh48 #hikethewhites

Well I knew it would be tough doing 9-10 miles yesterday but god damn! π Weather was absolutely amazing yesterday!! I really wish I wore shorts π. The trail was a little muddy in spots but itβs the 1st hike of the year without having to put spikes on AT ALL! Whoop whoop ππ» Some snow very close to the summit but I had good traction in just my boots π₯Ύ and the snow would disappear after a few feet and back to bare trail. Margaret really enjoyed all the water spots. Took to the mountains and tackled three 4000 footers last weekend. #mountcabot #mountisolation #oldspeckmountain We hiked around 30 miles in three days and I am still recovering. I just know that If I can do itβ¦you can too. We were going to hike a fourth but will get that next time. Other than just hiking, I practiced sleeping in my truck as I spent the last couple months preparing it for longer trips. Learned a lot and will make a bunch of changes for the next trip. It will be much easier to just pack up and go up to the mountains. I canβt call it overlanding just yet but I did get a taste of it last weekend. Happy adventuring! #passportoverland

Mount Cabot on Saturday. 27/48 It was a hot one! The temps were in the high 80's but the monorail still hadn't melted. Thankfully I still had my microspikes in my pack. Finally bagged #30 on my 48 list π Mt. Cabot was such a pleasure to hike on this incredibly warm and sunny day! Yes, you can see my sunburn develop through the photos. The trails are beginning their shoulder season conditions, which had me scaling ice slabs one minute and slogging through mud/streams the next. For the most part the trails were in decent condition, though, which made for an enjoyable hike. (Continued) And my least favorite of the 48 so far - 1. Isolation via Glen Boulder trail and Davis Path *Glen Boulder trail is one of the most beautiful trails Iβve been on but the fact that you have to go up towards Mount Boot Spur then back down and over to Isolation (with much less impressive views) made me curse it 2. Tecumseh via Mount Tecumseh trail *those loose rocks and stairs for that little view?! 3. Cabot via Unknown Pond trail *no real views, wooded summit, but The Horn and Unknown Pond were gorgeous and Iβd go back just to visit those 4. Willey via Ethan Pond trail *every time I tried to bag this peak I was met with thick ice on all of the ladders and had to turn around. On my third attempt I finally did it and for that tiny little view. 5. Galehead via Gale River trail *I donβt remember much other than being unimpressed at the summit 6. Liberty via Liberty Spring trail *The views were perfect but the stair-master rocky trail wasnβt a great time especially carrying a heavy pack (I slept at the tent site) 7/8/9. Bondcliff, West Bond, Bond *I said what I said!
