DISCLAIMER: NOT ETHICAL ‼️🕊️ On our one and only afternoon in Hambantota we decided to visit Asia’s largest Birds Park and Research Centre 🦜 This was super spontaneous so neither of us did much research before going and we really wish we had 💻 Upon entering the bird park we were met with an array of beautiful and colourful birds. From flamingos to parrots, there were over 180 varieties of exotic birds. After snapping some photos we headed further into the park. But as we progressed we noticed that a lot of the birds were kept in small, cramped cages and they looked in bad condition. There was a whole section of cages hidden towards the end of the park where the bird cages were covered in faeces and looked forgotten. We’re not experts but we could tell that a lot of these birds weren’t in a good way. With missing feathers 🪶 and a lot of aggression displayed (even from typically less aggressive species). We actually came here to do bird feeding but decided against it as we didn’t want to promote this place or contribute any further. 💵 The staff consisted of lots of young boys who seemed inexperienced with the animals. It is clear that the most “attractive” and healthy birds are situated at the start of the park and towards the back are the birds that live in dirty sheds deprived of stimulation, light and cleanliness. 🦢 There are no signs of positive research being conducted here and it seems that the money goes towards the fancy resort next door instead of looking after the birds 🧐🧐 ‼️ Please DONT visit this place. Neden o saatte çünkü alışveriş 06-08 saatleri arasında yapılıyor diye internette bir rivayet dolaşıyordu. Teknelerin kalktığı iskeleden Otel veya acenta fiyatının çok çok azına (4 usd) atladım Çinli kadınlar ile dolu bir tekneye. Asya’nın en önemli, Vietnam’ın en iyisi yüzen pazara yaklaştığımızda bir iki tekne de meyvelerle bizim tekneye yanaştı ve bizim gibi turistlere satışa başladı. Bazı tekneler “Cay Beo” denilen bambu direklere ne satıyorlarsa onu asarak reklamlarını yapıyorlardı.Karpuz satan ne yapsın 😀 Sonuç izlenimim , güzel, otantik bir turistik aktivite. Bir tane de lokal görmedim ki alışveriş yapıyor olsun. Zaten saçma olur karada evin dört bir yanını sarmış bir sürü satıcı varken gidil tekne ile alışveriş mi yapacak. 🇨🇷 Alajuela - Costa Rica’s bougiest province 😂 ___________________________________ I’ve been to CR twice: once as a broke college student, once as a slightly less-broke working adult. Very different experience both times. ___________________________________ Trip 1 (2013): We took a shuttle from Monteverde to Lake Arenal and then took the boat across. Hiked Arenal National Park. Got rained out, went to a semi-secret free hot springs the locals go to. Stayed in a backpacker hostel. Got drunk and @sbandeka broke a table. Good times. ___________________________________ Trip 2 (2021): Rented a car and drove from the capital ( #SanJose); Did some sightseeing at Poas volcano (the one with the baby blue lake) then headed to Tabacon. I wasn’t in the OG gameplan for the resort so Mo and Sal didn’t book triple occupancy... first I was going to sneak in, but we figured out it’s like Disney World in there and they have computerized wristbands for everything, so I just sucked it up and paid. It was mid-pandemic and prices were low, though, so it ended up being more affordable than usual. After pretending to be a member of the 1% for a day, we went to nearby Alajuela falls. We spent some time on the beach and planned our next destination. We met some incredibly cute, but sadly really skinny, dogs at the bus stop and as usual wanted to bring them home with us. Overall we had a great week on the island and were sad to leave. 1️⃣2️⃣ I got up extra early this morning 🌅 so I would have time to make a gluten-free peach breakfast cake 🥧 for everyone before I left. After breakfast, I got my room turned over for the next guest and loaded the car. I was sad to say goodbye to all of my new friends, but I’m excited to see how their adventures 🎒 unfold. Greta 🐾 and I got on the road around 10 AM and were able to stop in Lexington to see a longtime friend. I visited longer than I planned to, but it was so good to see her and catch up 💜! We made it home in time to see everyone before they went to bed 🛌 and take a long, hot shower 😌. Now to spend the next 24 hours catching up on housework and errands before the next adventure 🥾 begins.
