We’ve been a bit absent lately, but there’s a valid reason…. We have been making head way on the house! Stumbling upon some more things then originally planned the Renos have definitely made a longer list then, but we are ready for it! Today one of the biggest jobs got done, digging out around the house to jack it up and pour a new concrete foundation! We had Temples Backhoe Service out to get the job done, and he got the job done! Fast, efficient, and doing everything we needed. To make way to the next stage. So if you’re in Central NFLD we highly recommend them! I can’t actually take credit for much, I’m a glorified fire watcher, as we clear up and burn brush (safely in a burn barrel, nothing open land), and a coffee runner. Axe and I are always around for moral support, but Chris is carrying the weight of this one, and we can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done so far!

1️⃣2️⃣ I got up extra early this morning 🌅 so I would have time to make a gluten-free peach breakfast cake 🥧 for everyone before I left. After breakfast, I got my room turned over for the next guest and loaded the car. I was sad to say goodbye to all of my new friends, but I’m excited to see how their adventures 🎒 unfold. Greta 🐾 and I got on the road around 10 AM and were able to stop in Lexington to see a longtime friend. I visited longer than I planned to, but it was so good to see her and catch up 💜! We made it home in time to see everyone before they went to bed 🛌 and take a long, hot shower 😌. Now to spend the next 24 hours catching up on housework and errands before the next adventure 🥾 begins. 1️⃣1️⃣ Today I made up the miles I missed on day 4️⃣. Greta 🐾 and I hiked 11 miles SOBO (3000’ vertical gain) in 4.5 hours stopping at three overlooks and taking a short snack break. It felt so different hiking solo with no one expecting me anywhere at any certain time. It was a beautiful section of trail 😍and it was fun to see all the hikers I’d fed the night before passing Northbound. We made back in plenty of time for a 🚿shower and laundry 🧺 before yoga at 4 🧘♀️. Our time in the mountains ⛰️ is quickly coming to an end and I’m really going to miss the friends I’ve made. How we’re feeling heading into the weekend with vacation just on the horizon. We did have a bit of a set back this week with Loki. As many of you know, he’s been struggling with itchy feet (due to suspected allergies) since December. He’s been doing a lot better recently and has been cone free for most of the month but he had a relapse a few days ago and chewed his one paw so raw that he couldn’t comfortably put weight on it. We were able to catch it pretty quickly and get him veterinary care and an aggressive treatment regime so we are hopeful we can turn things around for him before we leave on our trip. He was already doing better yesterday and able to walk on it again. Long term maintenance and what we do next is a bit trickier to figure out, but we are taking things one step at a time and are grateful to have an excellent veterinary team supporting us. As a reminder, we respectfully ask for no suggestions or advice. I know everyone has the best intentions and wants to help and I am so thankful there are people that care so much about our pups 🥹 But it gets incredibly overwhelming trying to respond to the literal hundreds of messages we get offering suggestions, explaining what we have tried and defending what we haven’t. And especially when we have tried most of these things already, it starts to feel a bit defeating. I choose to share this because this is our life and something we are going through, but I’m not looking for advice at this time. 9️⃣ We all slept in the shelter last night because the temperatures were predicted below freezing with 26 mph wind gusts 🥶. There’s always a fine line between it being better to sleep in the shelter versus your tent during weather like this. Your tent will flap all night long and drive you nuts, but will stay warmer than in the drafty shelter. I was happy with my decision and slept soundly until I had to get up at 3 AM to use the, uhh, facilities 🌳. I’d slept well and stayed really warm until that point and when I was outside the shelter, it didn’t feel as cold as I imagined. However, when Greta 🐾 and I went back to bed, she could not get warm. She shivered for the next three hours getting periodically up to turn circles in an effort to find a warmer spot, and I continually had to readjust her quilt trying to keep her warm. The low was 31° and surprisingly, we all stayed comfortable, except Greta 🐾. Once the sun came up, it warmed up really quickly 🌞. We enjoyed coffee and set out for the day. A few other hikers said there was a mouse in the shelter early in the evening, but Greta 🐾 growled and ran it off 🤣. I slept through it, but if had to guess, she actually did the Greta Grumble because she was annoyed it was making noise and interrupting her sleep 😆. I’ve never heard her growl. We started off with around 2000’ climb up Kelly Knob ⛰️. I waited for breakfast in the sun ☀️ at the top. By afternoon, it was around 60° with few clouds in the sky ⛅️. We ended our day by walking a couple of miles through mown pastures, which was a nice change of scenery. This was the final day of hiking with Deez 🥜 and Renchead 🔧, and we arrived to our pick up spot a little early.
